    mossberg 500 .410 shotgun

What do you guns think of the mossberg 410 in pistol grip format?

.410 for defense? I don't think that round has enough energy to be a reliable stopper. I think the 20 ga is a better alternative to the 12 ga.

I agree. Don't want someone getting back up if they are intent on hurt you or someone you care about. 12 ga just to make sure they stay down.

I dunno. I'm sure the .410 can get the job done - a .410 slug is comparable to a .44 magnum, nothing to sneeze at. But I think 12ga is a better choice because of the variety of ammo available. Unless you've got some recoil or weight issues w/ a regular 500 I would go with 12ga.

I haven't tried a shotgun w/ a forward pistol grip but I don't really see the point, it seems like it would be awkward to me.

Pistol grip shotguns are much more difficult to shoot accurately than stocked shotguns. I'd go with a 20ga if recoil is a concern, you will have more stopping power and a better selection of HD ammo.

Federal sells 000 buck at about $12.?? for a box of 20 for the Taurus Judge, it adds a little more knockdown power. but as others have said 12g is a better choice due to the variety of shells.

Go for the 20GA if your a bit recoil sensitive...my gf shoots one jus fine and she's under 120lbs...

Pistol grips are okay if your gonna be blasting away in an apartment or somwhere where you don't need to aim, but if your in a big house you might want to go with a pistol grip with a butstock so you can actually hit somthing with all that power!!

                  It's horses-for-courses.

IF you can handle a 12ga well enough ... use THAT

                  IF you can't handle 12ga, try 20ga.

IF you can't handle 20ga, go for .410 with the most powerful shells you can handle.

Consider the following question: What's a faster form of transportation ... an F14 or a 747? ... think carefully before answering.

Retired but still kicks ***, lol at those F/A-18 Super Hornets trying to be fleet defense and interceptors. Letting Bears fly right over the carrier.

Yet the 747 carries more so it would be the faster form of transportation. Plus the range it has.

IF it's transporting fire retardant THEN the 747
                      IF it's not and it's then for a sh*t and g*t strike, THEN it's the F14
IF it's for carrying a Space Shuttle, THEN it's the 747
                      IF NOT, THEN>
                      DO CASE>
OMG! for whatever phreaking case is necessary
                      END CASE>
                      END IF

                      Hope this will suffice!

For what? A toy? Don't get me wrong, I love .410s. I have 5 of them. But, (except for a TC Contender in .410/45LC, Judge, etc. which are illegal in CA) why would anyone want a PG only .410? They are not going to be good for hunting, breaking clays or HD. Also, the 500s in .410 are really hit and miss. You might get one that works great but, you might get a lemon too. If you want a .410 pump, find an 870! I've got nothing against 500s except in .410.
