Tristar shotguns

I won one at our local DU dinner. Mine is the Viper DU model. It appears to be a knockoff of the Beretta gas operated shotguns.
Took mine out as soon as it was out of gun jail, and it didn't work worth a darn. It was basically a bolt-action shotgun, no matter what ammo you put in it. The folks at the factory warranty place were REALLY helpful, and had the gun on its way back to me the same day it arrived. I haven't shot it much since I got it back (havent been out with shotguns much at all since then, been doing more of the rifle and handgun thing). It worked fine the one time I tried it once I got it back.
I'm planning on it being my designated waterfowling piece."Mr. Rat, I have a writ here that says you are to stop eating Chen Lee's cornmeal forthwith. Now, It's a rat writ, writ for a rat, and this is lawful service of same!" -
these shotguns are junk...I knew a guy who sent his two tristar shotguns back 3 time each....get a stoger or mossberg O/U or look on the for sale forum for a good used one....Stay away from Tristar/Legacy BrandComment

I haven't shot one, but I've heard some good things about them from a variety of people who do. My understanding is that the newer ones are better. I have compared Mossberg, Stoeger and Tristar. I noticed that the quality of the metallurgy and manufacturing was better than the Mossberg O/U. At the current price point, it's probably not a bad experiment for an O/U. I heard the 12 guage kicks quite hard, so you may opt for the 20.Comment

I bought a Tristar Viper G2 Tactical simi auto 12ga and after I broke it in it seems to shoot just fine
The first set of shells I ran through it were a smaller 2 3/4 shell and it wasnt cycling the shells. Called factory and they said to run about a half of a box of heavy loads and that should break it in....So I ran some hot 3" shells through it as well as a dozen or so Magnum 2 3/4" and now its cycling the lighter 2 3/4" fine now
I bought it mainly as a home defense gun, as well as last week I picked up a Marlin 795 .22 semi auto for a fun little plinker and to let the kids shoot too.
