    Charles Daly pump shotgun update...

Regardless how nice they look and feel and how low the price is...DON'T GET ONE!

I shot mine for the first time this morning and it failed to eject immediately. I was hugely disapointed because it looks and feels so good that i now have to get a Benelli to get a gun that looks and feels that good that actually works!

Few weeks back my friend bought two of the same shotguns and our first day out with them they both functioned perfectly but today both failed to eject just like mine did. The action on one of his wouldn't slide back all the way so I took it apart, cleaned it and it's really broken.

So 3 out of 3 failed to work. It was a very sad day for these shotguns.

The moral of this story is to stay away from Charles Daly shotguns.

I don't understand why someone would buy a Charles Daly shotgun with no positive track record of reliability in actual battle when you can buy a good used Remington 870 for less?

I had the same problem until I discovered that I didn't have the barrel seated in the receiver all the way. Check it and make sure.

They have excellent customer service if you need it.

I went back to the store that sold it to me and they gave me a refund.

The clerk told me that the only firearms he's ever returned were these shotguns. I take it that's not a good sign!

They are very nice looking shotguns and the price was $269 for the tactical model with ghost ring rear/fiber optic front sights, removeable Remington style choke tube and feels like a Benelli, that's why. I'm bummed that I had to return it!

Here is a fact my gun loving friends. There are reasons that certain weapons cost what they cost and other cost less. Many of us opt for the lesser cost weapons only to find out why they cost less. Then there are weapons that cost less and are worth every penny and then some of what we paid, however, Like APNF128 posted, these are weapons that have been around for many years and stood the test of time. One that comes to mind is in my safe and has filled many deer tags when I used to gun hunt ( only bow hunt now) and that is an New England arms single shot in .270. I would go to sight it in each year and shoot beside guys with $1,200 rifles and when we go down range my groups are most often tighter then theirs. The recent fad for tactical shotguns has brought some real junk to the market and anyone wanting to be the "Test Dummy" for this stuff can go buy it. Me, I will sit back and over the next couple of years of reading these forum, talking to other gun owners and reading the trades, I will learn if these weapons are working out to be the value they claimed to be when they hit the market. Then and only then will I open my wallet.

my dads first shotgun was a mossberg 500 and it has well over 5000 rounds out of it and it still works fine! thats no lie

The CD is a very simple design and not much can wrong with it. That's why I believe the problem the OP was having was operator error. The ejector is very thick steel and it would be unlikely that it would break. The extractor is machined steel and it's very similar in design to the 870 extractor. The CD pump shotgun design is similar to the 870 but no parts will interchange.

I am working a review of the CD tactical pump and here are a few preview pictures.

This picture shows the two internal parts of the CD Pump, The steel bolt looks similar to the 870. The bolt sits on the charging assembly and it fits into a plastic slot on the forend. The CD pump has two shell latches like the 870 but they are shorter & much thicker and held in place by a steel pin. They aren't staked in place like the 870.

This picture shows the CD shotgun's very thick aluminum receiver. The rail is held on by five screws and the rear GRS is held on by two screws. It's a very strong rail and GRS setup. The GRS are nice and very similar to the LPA GRS.

The front Ghost ring sight which is very low profile because the rear sight is mounted on the receiver and not high up on rail.

Like I said not much can go wrong with one and all parts a drop in fit. If I had a choice between a standard Mossberg 500 or a CD pump would choose the CD pump hands down.

                          Max100,
I recognize that front sight, it looks the same as the one Mossberg is using on it's 930 SPX. If it is, it's adjustable. The bolt head in front of the fiber optic raises or lowers the rear of the front sight. Click adjustable.

I had a failure extract issue with a few SG's, a borebrush rapped with copper wool and smeared with Flitz attached to a rod at the end of a drill motor polished out the chamber and no more extraction problems.

For $270 bucks it's almost worth the experiment if your budget can stand it. Someone wants to off load theirs, my standard offer for a malfunctioning SG is $175

The front sight on the CD is not adjustable. It has two mount screws that secures the top portion that houses the fiber optic tube. It can easily be change it out.

I agree the failure to extract issues. It pretty easy to narrow down the problem which is most often fire shell sticking in the chamber.

In my opinion so far the CD is a very good pump shotgun. It's a very simple design and with beefed up shell latches, ejector & aluminum receiver. The top portion of the aluminum receiver is very thick for drilling and tapping for a rail mount.

That's one of the problems on Moss 930SPX. The front half of the receiver is thin and there has been issues with the two front screws on the rail mount strpping out.

Your in luck. Theres a shop in Fresno,CA. Mayfield Firearms or something.. They have a 30 day return policy!!! Its the best!! I once got a handgun from them. Took it out for 2 weeks. Shot it, it didnt feel right and couldnt cycle worth crap. Brought it back to them, no question asked and I was given a full refund which I then used to buy another handgun and a M44 with lots of ammo! Great place to visit BTW!
