    question about shotgun laws in CA

    im gonna buy a mossberg 500a off a buddy.....it has an 18inch barrel and a pistol grip stock, and he said when he bought it new in 2002 it had a wood stick where you load the shells and he took that out. Ive never owned a shotgun so i was wondering if its legal to have it set up the way he has it? if not what do i need to change? sorry if its a newbie ? but id rather be safe then sorry.

    as long as it have a 18+" barrel and is over 26" long, then it is legal.

    look at the shotgun legality chart for more info on how all the different laws affect shotguns. http://www.calguns.net/caawid/sgflowchart.pdf

    Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

      Perfectly legal. The reason shotgun magazines are sometimes limited is to comply with certain hunting laws and regulations.
      God, grant me the serenity
      To accept the things I cannot change;
      The courage to change the things I can;
      And the wisdom to know the difference.

          Actually, the mag length can be as long as you want for hunting, but must be limited to 2+1 per DFG regulations for hunting. You could go out hunting with a 9 shot persuader if you wanted as long as it was limited to 2+1.. though you would likely get some strange looks

            Mostly right. It can only be 3 shells total if it's for waterfowl hunting. But otherwise the only maximum limitation on ammunition is 10 rounds in the magazine as per hi-cap laws.
