    Stock Bolt Question

So I have a remington 870 that I baby, then I also have a Norinco Hawk 98 (The 870 Clone) that I bought on here that I put through hell Only problem is the norinco stock bolt is metric threads and shorter.. I wanna beable to change stocks and stuff easily with 870 parts.. I need a metric m6 1.0 thread bolt just like the stock one but 10.5" long instead of the stock 7" or whatever... Any suggestions?

Also I picked up a new 870 receiver stud hoping just swap the stud and I can use the 870 bolt but the stud doesn't fit the hawk receiver..

You could take a .250 mild steel rod, thread one end for a 1/4-28 nut and tack it in place as the head. Then grind off about .030" on the diameter over the desired thread length and then thread it with a 6-1.0 die.

I could if I had any experience with that lol... Even if I did that mild steel stong enough? Not gonna strip it easily?

hey joe, bills suggestion was good, but you wouldnt need two different threads, just one would work. im assuming you dont have that kind of experience though, so i would suggest first looking at a hardware store to see if they had the bolt you need, if not look for threaded rod in that size as well. if they do have 6mm threaded rod, cut it to length, scrw it in like a stud, then top it off with a nut to tighten down. mild steel is plenty strong enough, stainless steel would work as well. i would also loctite it in there with blue or red. i hope this helps. im surprised nobody has offered to fab you one yet. i would, but im 12000 miles away. good luck.

First you are chopping up historic vintage rifles and sticking them in cheap and nasty looking plastic "dildo" stocks that look like some kind of futuristic sex toy that gay space aliens stick up each other's butts.

You should try your local independent ACE hardware. They often have bins full of oddball fasteners.

Ok thanks for the responses guys.. I have tryed ace hardware, lowes, home depot but nothing metric.. The all-thread idea was my first thought but never seen all-thread in metric around here..

Freon- i'll check that website out right now, thanks.

Any more ideas please let me know... If someone wants to fab one up I'll definatly pay for bolt/shipping and whatever..

                  Thanks

Hmmm...I looked for studs, threaded rod, etc at McMaster Carr for you as I use their site a lot.
                    No luck.

Seems to me a mild steel 1/4-20 threaded bolt that long (a little longer is actually needed) can be found at a hardware store.
Cut off the 1/4-20 threaded end.
Then it could be rethreaded to 6x1 metric threads.
I have the metric dies, saws, etc to do this.

Be very specific here...you need it 10.5" long measured from under the bolt head to the end of the threads? Or 10.5 " long including the bolt head?
How deep is the threaded hole the bolt will go into?

Also, most 1/4-20 bolts have a 7/16" wide head. Is this head width too wide to allow a socket to fit over it to tighten it when down in the stock? In that case, a screwdriver type head might fit better? )

If you still need this, please carefully double check all measurements, determine the head style you need, then PM me with the info and I will see what I can do.
