        Never shot turkey loads, but would lighter 12g loads help with the recoil? or would a 20g auto be better?

                Yes there are lighter 12g loads. I'd buy a used 20g seems to always be one laying around a gun shop. Reason being like all boys he'll soon want a 12 gauge after getting used to the 20g.

                    My son went from 20 Ga to 12 Ga in a few years. I would try and find a loaner if you could. Then just buy him a really nice 12 Ga with the saved expense.
