Installing Ghost Ring Sights on 870

I have a Remington 870 and bought a set of Trijicon (Scattergun Technologies) Ghost Ring Sights. The rear sight requires the receiver to be drilled and tapped. I'm wondering if I should install the sights myself or take them to a local Gunsmith? Anyone know of a reputable Gunsmith in the Bay Area? Any help would greatly be appreciated...

    Thanks in advance!

Imbert & Smithers in San Carlos has been recommended to me before. I have not gone to them with anything yet, so I can't speak from experience.

I opened up the installation instructions and it gives you all the precise measurements, so since my Father-in-law is a machinist and has a mill in his garage, we decided to do the install ourselves! We've got it all drilled...but since the 6/40 tap I need isn't a common size, I'll have to go buy one tomorrow and finish tapping it then. I saved myself about $100 and a week without my shotgun...

Thanks for the feedback and 'Smith recommendations...

              Nice!!

Knoxx or Blackhawk specops? I got the knoxx, I heard there was some problems with the Blackhawk but, I could be wrong.

Knoxx. I haven't had any problems, but I may go to the Mesa Tactical conversion so I can use AR type pistol grips and stocks!

Thanks! It's attached with Epoxy (included with sights) over the existing bead sight (bead removed for installation).

Any issues with it coming loose? I see so many posts dissuading attachment via adhesives. I used epoxy (J-B Weld) to attach the front sight on my 590 and it has stayed on without problem. I roughed up the surface of the barrel before attachment.

I'm taking it out to Panoche Hills BLM this Saturday, so we'll see if the front sight stays put!?!? If not, I'll be using some JB Weld.

Hey man, the Black Hawk specops and the Knoxx are the same stock as Black Hawk bought Knoxx... only the name has changed. There seemed to be some issues since the moved the factory and when they ramped up production at first, but they have worked them out...
