shotgun discussion. Which to buy?

So I'm looking for something to top off my "mall ninja" collection of firearms. I'd like to admit I am new to the scattergun scene.
Looking to get a semi auto shotgun due to the fun they are to shoot and the easy pickings when it comes to buying ammo. I don't mind spending the cash on something that is "expensive" as long as you get what you pay for. Main purpose of this shotgun would be. 1. to make noise at the shooting range blasting targets 2. Maybe some 3 gun in the future and 3. Maybe some skeet shooting.
So I've been looking at.
Benelli M4
FN SLP
Are there any other models I should consider?

From what I've seen those with Benelli's who switch to FN SLP MKI for 3-Gun aren't switching back. The FN SLP MKI is pretty much setup for 3-Gun out of the box. You'll still get 2/3 saying to get the Benelli. The Benelli for 3-Gun is usually the M2 Field 21".

You'll save a lot going with a FN SLP MKI over a M4 though. Ray Tanner sells the MK I for $879 while you'll be lucky to get a M4 for $1500. Then including Use Tax, FFL fees and DROS, you're looking at $200 in fees. So OTD price will be around $1000 on the FN SLP MK I and over $1700 for the M4. The FN SLP Police will cost more then the MK I. I think they're going for around $1000 even so about $1200 OTD. I think a M2 Field will be around $1400 OTD.

Another consideration to take into account is that with the M4, you're stuck with that one barrel while most other choices will give you a pretty good range in case you change your mind about that particular set up.

I'm trying to decide between a M2 Field 21" and the FN SLP MK I.

That aside, there are lot's a good semi-autos out there: Browning, Benelli, Beretta, and more but being a breakdown gun fanatic, I'll leave that for better men to cover. But I'd say 12 Gauge--no other caliber is more widely available in such a broad array of loads. You want a 12 gauge.
