    "Low Recoil" 00 Buck

I usually avoid low recoil ammo, but recently saw some 12 Ga. 00 Buck for super cheap, so picked up a couple of boxes. My question is, will this low recoil ammo cycle the action in a semi-auto shotgun? I plan on buying the Mossberg 930 SPX in the next few months and dont want to feed this stuff if it wont cycle the action. Thanks for your input.

your gonna have to name what brand of ammo your going to buy and see if any other members have experience with it.

winchester ranger 12 OO buck cycles fine with my benelli M1

It also depends on the semi, what cycles in a M1 might not cycle in your 930.

Test the shells before you buy a ton of them. You could roll it in with a patterning test.

Also, in my case, a Remington 11-87P, low-recoil stuff didn't cycle well at all when my gun was new, but after several (I'm estimating 500-1000) rounds, the low-recoil stuff fired & fed more reliably!

The 930 I tested ran fine but shot high with WR slugs, but it had a few thousand rounds through it before I got a hold of it.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

I read a review on "weapons evolution" and there is a guy on there that shoots low recoil and just about every cheap ammo out there and he says
his 930SPX have run 100%. If your getting the SPX, i say dont worry.

I have heard stories about low-recoil ammo not cycling some semiautos properly so as a matter of precaution I'd say avoid them. This would be especially true if your semiautomatic is inertia-driven rather than gas-driven.

I have a Remington 1100 and low-recoil Federal "Law Enforcement" 00 buck cycles with no problems, and the bolt locks back after the last round.

I use low recoil for my 590 and really like it. Slugs and 00 buck.
I have never used it in a semi-auto.
Try a sample in your new gun and see for yourself.
Low recoil is great shooting stuff! You can still feel your shoulder after 100 rds down range.

I have heard a lot of people say that THEY have heard it "won't cycle a semi-auto" but I can remember anyone recently saying that it didn't work in THEIR semi auto. Lots on this thread that say it works fine though.

Just test first before buying several cases of the particular ammo. The recoil operated guns like the Benelli M1 and Beretta 1200/1201 have the potential to be ammo sensitive more so than gas operated guns. My Benelli M1 was sensitive in that way especially after I started hanging accessories on it. Had to change to a lighter recoil spring to make everything function reliably and my defensive loads are not even reduced recoil.

Where are folks getting the Winchester Ranger low recoil? Big 5? Wallly-World? Sportsman's Guide?
