Stevens model 67 series E, HELP!!!

    Hey guys,
Picked up this Stevens model 67 series E (also known as the savage model 30) for a helluva deal. As you can see, there is some work to do. What is the best way to remove the rust and does anyone have disassembly instructions for this shotgun? Thanks!

Hopefully you didn't pay more than $25 for it.

Steel wool, wire brush or a die grinder. Those rust spots will forever be there now.

Yeah sure didn't, I've heard CLR might work. Thoughts anyone?

Glass bead blast, and refinish it. Or there is a chemical call (rust eraser), it can be found at some hardware stores/ or Grainger I believe. You just dip the parts into it and the come out looking cleaner than new,....it might ruin the remaining finish though. Its pretty mild, I think its non toxic.

Naval jelly, then steelwool the entire barrel and action then get it reblued. Or you can try to spot reblue it yourself, but there is so much damage it will never look good.

Best I could come up with as far as dis-assembly.

Hahaha..even with a closeup shot, you still got your toes in the pic. That is SKILL!

Willing to bet Remington take down will give you some idea of how this comes apart, since at least externally they seem to share at least a couple similar features. Won't be perfect verbatim disassembly, but it'll be a start. Just a guess.

On the rust, I'm sure it'll clean up but really for best results this is most definitely a refinish candidate. I would use steel wool and Birchwood Casey blue/rust remover, as well as some light sanding. After that I would get it park'd, bluing is sooooo 5 minutes ago!

I would especially not use cold bluing. Not for a job this big. If all else fails and you cannot put a finish on it that's not cold bluing from home, get it down in the white and take it to someone who can. An economy bluing or parkerizing is surprisingly affordable these days.

Take it apart and then steel wool/bead Blast it and use Duracoat.
