    Not arguing, but the inertia system was rejected by the military cause it was not reliable with optics, rails, and shell mounts.

    They no have taken on the M4 with dual self cleaning pistons and that can take some mounts and hardware.

        Do you have proof of this? Ive heard no such thing.
        Ive heard they took up the M4 because the semi-auto wouldnt cycle the non-lethal bean bags and tear gas rounds. The M4 made it possible by being able to switch to pump action for such applications.

        Both M1 and M4 could not cycle in semi-auto while shooting the non-lethal rounds.

            The Benelli M3, not M4, is the one that can switch between semi-auto and pump-action.

            The M1, M2 & M3 are inertia recoil operation and the M4 is gas-piston.

            The M4 uses a gas-piston because the RFP was for a gas-opertated semi-auto shotgun.

                    It's both pump-action and semi-auto. In semi-auto mode, it is still inertia-driven.
