    1187 feed problem

I am having a problem with my 1187 feeding properly. the bolt cycles back and hangs open as if it were empty and there is a shell sitting on the feed ramp to load. The feed ramp will not lift it in to place with out pressing the release. i have tried to clean the mag tube with that no helping. cleaned all the oil off and reoiling as recommended in the manual...very lightly. any ideas of what it could be?

Look on the left inside wall of the receiver (opposite the ejection port and lower down on the receiver wall) there should be a 1/4" wide by 2" long piece of metal that fits in a slot in the receiver. It should be slid either all the way forward or all the way aft (I can't remember which). Try it both ways and see which one is correct. Friction should hold it in place but sometimes it has to be staked to get it to stay.

Does this happen only with the last one or two shells in the mag tube?

There are a multitude of issues that can cause this. Your Carrier dog can be broken, the Carrier can be bent or damaged, the enguagement stud is damaged, the carried dog follower spring is damaged......and the list goes on with as many as 15 issue that it could be. It is unlikely that you will find the issue and you should take it to a gun smith with expirence on Remington shotguns.

it happens with shells in the tube not just the last one.

Start with the simplest things. Make sure the gun is unloaded

Try a different brand of shells.

Remove, clean, inspect and lubricate the fire control system.

Clean out the mag tube. This help insure the shells travel fast enough to trip the latch. ( This a Benelli thing just a guess the remmy might work the same way).

Buy a new mag spring from Brownells or your local dealer even if that's not the problem it's a maintenance part. While your at it buy all the little parts for the gas system and replace them. Get extra O rings too.

Take it to a gun smith.

Becareful when you remove the trigger system the inside of a 11xx get real sharp inside and you won't be the first to have cut the crap out of your fingers.

These are all things you should be able to do on your own. Brownells also has a great IPB for the remmys. After inspection if you find a broken part order it and put it in yourself or take it with you to the GS.

I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

I was having problems with my 1100CM. Keep it clean and as Randy stated get a bunch of new O rings and a new gas ring piston. I change the O rings each time I clean it. I use Rem Oil on the trigger group, but Mobile 1 Syn. oil for the rest, action, bolt, I keep it wet. Randy is right about being careful about it being sharp on the inside. I also had my gas ports enlarged to .110"
Runs great now with all types of ammo, 3 drams or greater.
