Here is a pic of the shot holder on the ATI stock ( if some of you guys are not familiar with it )



Total was 225 for the gun, I think 50 for background check/taxes/other ****, then 100 for foldingstock, heat shield, and shot holder.

Around 350 total.

What do all you experts think?

Mossbergs are my preference in pump guns, so thumbs up there. However, I'm not familiar with the Maverick line other than I believe it's their entry level option.

I have an ATI stock on a couple of guns, I find them clumsy and kinda ugly, but they are functional which is the most important thing. It is a bit of a pain to get to a Mossberg safety with them, so beware of that if this is to be a quick deployment weapon.

I thought about trying their ghost rings, but never did.

Is that a flash hider hanging on the front end? Never seen that one before.

Folding stocks have been removed from a lot of PD shotguns because they are more difficult to control than a more conventional stock.....The recoil reducing (ATI) stocks are really popular though.

Yeah, Im not exactly sure what that thing at the end of the barrel, I know my 88 wont have one.


Yeah Mavericks are thier "economic" version of the 500. Some parts are made in other countries but assembled in US. THe maverick gets good reviews from almost every where you can find.. The only difference between the maverick and 500 is safety position. Maverick has safety by trigger...

Other than the folding stock, the heat shield, and flash suppressor, it a nice shotgun.

Totally tacticool and IMHO, you're taking a decent gun and making it into something that will look cool but not perform as well as a stock one. If you don't need a folding stock, don't use one. I have found them to be much more uncomfortable than the factory stock. The flash hider is totally useless unless you are taking it into combat. The extra shell holders add a lot of weight and extra bulk. If you are just getting it to impress your buddies, great! If you are actually thinking of relying on it for self defense, you'll see the light and put it back closer to it's original configuration after playing with it a bit and getting a better understanding of exactly what you need and don't need in a SD/HD shotgun. Another thing to consider is that most top 3 gunners do NOT use ghost rings because they take more time for sight acquisition that a simple bead. But again, if it makes you happy, that counts for something. When it comes to a personal defense weapon, I like to keep it as simple as possible.

The flash hider does not come with the 88 Maverick. I wanted Pistol Grip for HD but knew the usefullness of a fulls stock so I thought a folding stock would be a compromise. Might add full stock w/ pistol grip in the future... The extra shells are needed if im ever in a situation where i believe I'll need extra amunition... Thanks for your input on the gun. I would love to hear more about the unpractical- ness of the ghost ring sights, etc... I bought it because a heatsheald came with the extra ghost ring sight.... Any other suggestions/ input is always welcome, you guys are the experts here...

It looks like something Crockett and Tubbs would use. Now all you need is some pastel clothes to go with it.

It's your money enjoy your shotgun. You're going to need some good ear plugs.

If you want to really see what works best for SD shotgun, attend a few 3 gun matches and pay attention to what the top shooters are using. I'm not saying that you or I will ever be that good but, they tend to all use similar equipment when money is at stake. There has to be a reason for that!
