    Shotgun DVDs

Can I get some recommendations for some good shotgun training DVDs?

    Thanks!

Matt Burkett puts out one that should be good. He's a great 3 gun shooter. If that's not your deal then try Thunder Ranch, ITTS, Gunsite, one of them might have one.

If you're into clay games I don't know.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Gunsite has some pretty good shotgun training videos, and they're posted up on youtube. I don't know if these are approved postings, but they've been there for a long time, so nobody appears to be complaining.

Look for the 7 part series on tactical shotgun:

If defensive use is what you're interested in, Gabe Suarez has a new DVD that covers it well. Not a gamer course though.

          Thanks to all the replies!

          Vandal,

What does "not a gamer course" refer to?

          Thanks.

Just means this is not geared toward winning competitions, it's geared toward staying alive.

"it's geared toward staying alive." That's what I'm looking for.

              Thanks!

His book is pretty good, too. Not that I've tested it in a real life scenario (and hope I never have to!), but it struck me as pretty comprehensive and accessible.

I like Loui Awerbuck's. You can get it at Reed's in Santa Clara. If you like the DVD, then you can take the class from him when he's at Reeds. Great instructor.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

Go over to Paladin Press and check out their stuff. They've got a lot of videos. Get used to cheesy production values though, because none of this stuff is exactly Hollywood budget. I kind of prefer reading to be honest, mainly to avoid all the wailing guitar solos you have to put up with on DVDs.

Wailing guitar solos are bad? Dang, I just added the new iShoot stock to my 870! It lets you play your choice of aggressive tunes while clearing your house...

I figured that was important after watching many of the tac videos. I'm having a hard time choosing between Disturbed and "Ride of the Valkyries", though.

Hahaha, nah, I'm all for some guitar manipulation from time to time, but the stuff in some of these vids is more like guitar tomfoolery. Ever watched the Cold Steel vids? Go to their site. There's hours of entertainment there. If you want to watch a slightly overweight middle aged man in a ninja costume slice a watermelon in half with a katana, these vids are for you.

One of the things you do gotta watch out for though, is sometimes gun/martial arts/knife training vids can be full of some major FUD kind of stuff. For instance if you're watching a tactical pistol video series, and the expert hosting it's favorite cartridge is the .45 ACP, he might try to tell you it's THE MOST POWERFUL CARTRIDGE KNOWN TO MAN AND IT WILL TURN AN ELEPHANT'S INSIDES INTO CAMPBELL'S CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP WITH ONE ROUND. Or if he's trying to teach you some kind of McDojo version of Taekwondo, he might try to say buying his DVDs will teach you to kick a horse in half with an hour's training 3 days a week. Loooooot of crazy stuff in these videos. Sometimes you gotta take them with a grain of salt.

Thunder ranch "Defensive Shotgun" is excellent. http://www.thunderranchinc.com/store.html

Lenny Magills "Mastering the Combat Shotgun" is also very informative - especially for the new shooter.

Regarding the prior post for this video:

Amazon.com said this DVD has been discontinued but still available. It's pretty good and goes over some things and suggests some techniques to practice or to later train.

I'll echo some of the previous sentiments and say that Louis Awerbuck's "Combat Shotgun" is pretty informative. The only issue is that the video is fairly old---early 90s maybe. The production value is low and the video and audio are not properly mastered. Looks like a straight copy from a VHS original. Regardless the information presented is very good. Just don't expect the kind of quality seen in the Magpul training videos.
