    Replacing a 1991 Mossberg 500 mag spring

I'm trying to replace the mag spring in a 1991-ish Mossberg 500. I have the AGI armorer's DVD but the problem is, the mag tube in the DVD is different from the one I'm trying to disassemble. The one in the video was a one piece tube where the one I have seems to have a "cap" on the front end of the tube.

Can somebody with experience disassembling this type of tube give me some advice?

    Thanks.

By cap, do you mean the barrel nut? I can't think of anything that would stop you from simply unscrewing the mag tube from the base of the receiver.

A picture of your mag tube would help.

Yes. I do believe it is the barrel nut. Also, I found out the tube needs to be unscrewed from the receiver.

What does everybody use to unscrew the tube from the receiver?

      Thanks.

"My hands, they are wrenches" you are MANLY! You must be an iron worker. Shook a guy's hand that worked as an iron worker, he nearly crushed my hand.

Sounds like you have the closed-end mag tube. No big deal; it still unscrews from the receiver. You might need make or buy a barrel wrench to unscrew it. Some penetrant and heat at the joint will help.... but nothing beats a barrel wrench on the tube and the receiver clamped in a vise. (Being careful not to crush the receiver.)

Get an original Mossberg or Remington spring if you can. I bought a Wolff spring and the ends weren't closed, so I had to close them myself, which is a pain.
