Stevens Model 39A - added pictures

Anyone have a clue where the serial number is supposed to be?

I have pulled the action out of the stock and still can't find it.

If it was made prior to 1968 (most likely) it was not required to be embossed with a serial # from the factory.

I had no idea. Part of the 68GCA I presume.

So if it goes through a 01FFL for transfer, how is it recorded it in his log book?

Yes the 68 gca required all arms mfg's to emboss firearms with a serial number at the factory with the addition of long guns.

I believe the Stevens may in fact have been built by Mossberg for them and would be near 50 years old if not more. As such, long guns over 50 years old are exempt from dros for a face to face transaction.

My book doesn't show Stevens ever offering a bolt 410 which makes me look towards the Mossberg mfg.

Books are great though but not the bible.

Is yours a tube fed bolt action like a .22 is. If so you have a very rare shotgun. Not very many of those where ever made. Did you happen to pick this up off some dude on CL's a couple of years ago?

It is similar to a tube fed 22. I inherited it from my father.

It is listed on Gunbroker.com if anyone is interested in it. Unfortunately I have to thin out my collection due to 'economic circumstances'.

That is definately not a Mossberg produced shotgun.

              Nice though.

Acouple of years ago, I purchased an older shotgun from a major local FFL. It didn't have a SN. The FFL logged it in with a description. No problem with DROS / DOJ. Picked it up in 10 days.
