    Mossberg 590 folding stock

    Hi
I?m thinking of getting one of those pistol grip/folding stocks that fold over the receiver on a 590. I think ATI makes them. Right now my shotgun has the typical factory style wood stock and forearm.
Any experience with one of those folder stocks? Waste of money or good idea? I shot one a long time ago with one of those stocks but I dint remember much as to if I liked it or not.
    Thanks

I wouldn't do it personally....but I'm not a big fan of pistol grips or folding stocks. I'd recommend either the Hogue 12.5 LOP buttstock or the excellent Magpul SGA buttstock. Pistol grips and folding stocks may look cool but most anything about shooting the shotgun would be better with a buttstock. Check out the sticky above "What I did with my shotguns".

Magpul Stock and Fore End. The folding Stocks will just beat the hell out of you. I'll give you some of the reasons but it is easier to just go to this thread and see "What I did to my shotguns." https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/....php?t=1651983

          From personal experience...

When folded, the stock is good for making the shotgun more compact for storage/transport and it makes some people think that it makes the shotgun tacticool.

It also increases the felt recoil of the shotgun and is uncomfortable to shoulder, compared to a fixed shoulder stock.

IMO... it's a waste of money, because there are better shoulder stocks than it.

Ok thanks guys. Sounds like a waste of money. I like the current wood stock and front grip set up so I’ll just stick to that and the side saddle. My only Pistol grip shotgun is a VR80.
I remember shooting a pistol grip/folder stock 500 and been wracking my brain trying to remember but I just don’t remember much about shooting it. I’ll read the link too

I don't like pistol grips or folders. People spend fortunes on stocks that fit. If you can't fit in the back seat of a VW with your full size SGN then maybe have a 1911. I'm very much into tacticool and everything about that folder is ghey. Get the Magpul SGA or Hogue like Zoner says. Spend $ on ammo and lessons like Randy preachs.

An advantage of an AR style pistol grip is maintaining control of the firearm while another hand is busy with other duties.

Here's a photo of my favorite shotgun, a 14" 870, when I had an old "Speedfeed" brand pistol-grip stock on it. The stock is non-folding and I've since switched back to a solid straight stock, due to personal preference.

The pistol-grip stock was ok, however, and originally came mounted to a 18.5" 870, which now also has a straight stock on that shotgun too.

                  There are side-folding stocks:

on the market. Listen, I don't personally care which stock someone's got. It'll be the owner's personal preference no matter what. I've personally not tried a folding shotgun stock and was always issued straight stocks as a LEO.

As previously noted, I do have a solid full length pistol-gripped stock which I've swapped on & off due to personal preference. Admittedly, my right wrist has, at times, bothered me due to too much weight of a shotgun straining that wrist (more than when using a pistol grip with my AR and AK rifles). I suppose it's just the shotguns being just a bit heavier.

With a straight stock, I seem to be able to both support the firearm better while pulling the shotgun tight against my shoulder (shoulder pocket).

I had the Hogue LOP with a custom grind Limbsaver on my 18.5 " 590 A1

                    Much more comfortable

I was at Turner's and bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 w/ATI folder for MSRP $293. Looking forward to trying it with Mini 12GA shells.
