Looking for a Padded Shooting Vest

I have a browning shooting vest that I use for Trap. I have gotten away from using the pad because I decided i wanted more "feel" when I mount. The pad is pretty thin anyway.

Other than making your own loads, there are other ways to reduce recoil. First one is pretty simple and needn't cost much. Add weight to your guns. You can look into adding some lead (or better yet Tungsten) in the stock and then find some way to attach some weight to the barrel to rebalance.

You can also look into adding a true recoil absorber. Gra Coil can be added to most wood stocks if you can spare an inch of wood. You can send your stock in to Graco and they will put the Gra Coil on for you along with shaping your choice of butt pad. I did this with an Ethos. I also have one on my Citori 725.

There are other similar recoil absorbers but I am most familiar with Gra Coil.

A rather expensive option is the Precision Fit stock. They look kind of robotic but makes everything adjustable. A guy I shoot with has them on all his Trap guns. I have a BT99 that I might get one of these for.

Why?

I thought you already had one on order. Did you try it and not like it? I'm a rather old man (subjectively) and have never had a problem with recoil and I sometimes shoot factory 1 1/8 oz. loads. Although most of my shooting is with 1 oz. or lower I've still never had an issue with factory 1 1/8.

However I recently got the Trappers vest due more to abrasion on my skin than any soreness due to impact. The Trappers vest is so comfortable (without the insert) that I will likely always shoot with it.

So why, if you don't mind saying, did you change your mind?

Well, it's a long story... I got the Browning vest and G3 insert from Amazon, but found they weren't that comfortable and returned them both. Instead, I bought a "Legendary Whitetails Men's Tough as Buck Vest". It's comfortable, and will keep me warm in the Fall and Winter. I also added a Limbsaver AirTech slip on recoil pad on my M1 Garand and Springfield M1903, which made both rifles easier to shoot. As for my shotgun, I'll try the slip-on recoil pad and see if it helps. If not, I may go back to that Browning vest and insert for use with my 12 gauge.
