I finally got to take my new-to-me Ithaca M87 featherweight(pistol grip only) shotgun out this weekend. A while back, I took it apart and got it all cleaned a lubed and the action was nice and slick for this trip. I fired the first shot just fine, but the forearm was complete locked up and would not come back. Pulling the action release did nothing. I unloaded the mag tube and then loosened the barrel nut so I could pull the barrel off and remove the empty hull. I noticed that once I got the barrel nut loose, the action freed up.
I experimented with a few different tightnesses and discovered that it I have to back off 2 clicks from full tight on the barrel nut to get it to cycle, otherwise it'll lock up.
Is this normal and expected from Ithacas? I had never used one before so I don't know if it's designed that way or not. Seems kinda weird to me.

PS this unit has the slam fire parts in it and it both fun and scary to slam fire a super-lightweight pistol grip only shotgun!
