    Browning Shotgun Information

I have an old 20-gauge Browning Lightning that I am wondering its approx value and choke markings (I believe it is modified and full). It is a hunted with used condition Belgium that I can only find patent numbers, no serials, unless those are the serials, should I look in a certain area. Thanks for the info CG brain trust.

    Top barrel is modified
    Bottom Barrel is improved cylinder

The serial number is under the lever used to open the action.

      $2K range.

Would have to review condition much more than the pics depict.

If a saltwood era mfg, that would have to be examined by removing some furniture.

Round knob, long tang > pistol grip (yours).

$1500-1800 would be my estimate. The serial number is under the opening lever. The first digits are the unique numbers, the middle letters are the date, the last 3 digits are the model. Post those and we can tell you its age and exact model. That looks like a hunter model, not a lighting, the lightnings usually had the rounded prince of whales grip area on the stock. Does it say Citori on the bottom side?

Serial is 62215V then a double space with a smaller font capital A stamped thinner so does not look like the A is part of serial stamp. The bottom sideof actions says Lightning cursive on top of BROWNING all caps with a little portrait of JMB .

$350 cash. I jest. It's a nice looking gun. I hope you can get what it's worth. The "salt wood" thing could throw a monkey wrench in the mix.

Thanks, I do not know what Saltwood is, but I am eager to learn. Saltwoood better or worse? JagerDogs reference helped me figure out that it looks like it was made in 1965.

Can you post a picture of the serial number?

Bob thanks for posting that article on Salt Wood. I had never heard the full story and I remember first hearing about it in the 90's and telling the guy he was FOS, Browning would never do something so stoopid! Then I got to go back and apologize to him a few days later after I found out that it did happen.

It was also good to learn that the affected dates were 1966-72. So both my 1963 and 1964 A5's are good to go.

                      Thanks again.
