    Scattergun technologies PT870

I just picked this up out of jail. I havent found a thing online regarding a model PT870 police magnum. Is anyone familiar with the PT production date? This is a 20 bbl and permanent full choke

Yes this I know. Scattergun technologies was sold to WC in 1999. They both produced the TR models. This model is a PT870. I am unable to find info on the PT model made in Nashville Tennessee

With my brief internet research I couldn't find much of anything regarding early Scattergun Technologies products or the PT870 shotgun.

I then did some minor research of the internet in general.
Keep in mind Wilson-Combat acquired Scattergun Technologies in ~2000.
In 1995, the internet was beginning to take off, but still on "dial-up" type connectivity (aka very slow).

By ~2000, dial-up was ending with DSL, a faster form of dial-up, becoming more popular, with businesses using some form of "ethernet".
As I recall, not all companies had yet even considered having websites.

I'm wondering if Scattergun Tech was struggling (or not) giving Wilson-Combat the opening to acquire/buy the company.

I do recall a fellow LEO from a state-department was issued a Scattergun Technologies 870, btw, but don't recall it being 20". It was likely an 18.5" length, but this is just my recollection. I didn't even think back then to see if it was a "TR" or "PT" prefixed shotgun.

Sorry, I don't have any info as to what "PT" would even mean or that Scattergun made a 20" barreled gun.

In 1999, my department was transitioning to the G22gen2, and phasing out issued-S&W revolvers and personally-owned-handguns.

12 gauge shotguns (Remington 870 was popular, but other brands were out there being issued/used, too, think Mossberg and Ithaca) were still very popular within the LE environment. AR15s were not yet very popular, but some departments were issuing the H&K MP5 sbr/subguns.

As an aside, in 2001, the "Laser Products" brand name was phased-out in favor of "Surefire". I still have a flashlight with the "Laser Products" brand name on it. Apparently, there was some industry changes going on which included acquisitions and name changes, not to say it won't always be occurring.

Scattergun Technologies was a kind of gucci shotgun, not cheap. Seems doubtful many LE outfits bought them.

There were quite a few ST/WC shotguns floating around inside of patrol cars in the mid to late 2000’s. I have a Border Patrol model myself with Vang Comp barrel ports that I purchased in ‘09. I’m unfamiliar with the PT870 model, but I distinctly remember there being a different ST/WC model next to the one I purchased. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a PT870. Your best bet is to call or email WC and let them run the serial number on your shotgun. I’m sure they have records on all of their builds.

If that gun is permanently choked Full you might not want to shoot slugs thru it

About the most choke you want for slugs is Improved Cylinder which is .720 or .010 constriction.

Hot tip would be to get the barrel Vang Comped. If you can take the wait due to the current backlog. For the quickest service You just send the barrel, nothing else.

Thank you for all that info , I really appreciate it! I just finished it up, adding a side saddle and barrel clamp. Oh and the furniture I got from VC.

I took the 870 in to a local gunsmith who measured the choke as a .650 constriction. Too tight for anything but Turkey loads. I’m going to send the barrel out to VC sometime next week. After to speaking to WC seems it was made in 1995, they had no other information for me.
