It’s been described to me as a mash up of trap, skeet, and sporting clays.

    Here’s an old video

Super fun, as humiliating as Sporting Clays are if you haven't done it before. Kind of like Sporting Clays for facilities that don't have the acreage for a full SC setup, which can be many acres to build a good SC range. I shot 5 Stand for the first time in Idaho a few years ago, I've never shot so poorly yet had so much fun. I shoot mainly Trap and a little Skeet, I found 5 Stand much more challenging, just like Sporting Clays.

Kinda like sporting clays without all the walking. You get a variety of shots from a variety of angles. There is some repetition involved because you shoot at the same targets, although from different angles.

5 clays are launched at each stand. A single, report pair and a true pair.
you can shoot twice at the single if you need to. So put 30 shells in your pouch.

            Its fun... try it

Thanks. My guns are mostly made for blasting thugs so I don't know how suited they would be for shooting at stuff up in the air.

Rentals are made for just that problem.

They may have a minimum barrel length requirement and ammo restrictions that your thug blasters (and the food you feed them) don't meet.

Might be worth a call to find out, before you go.

Small town, relatively primitive range. No rentals, no phone.

Looks kind of cool. Probably more likely in smaller venues. My range is a very large facility and has two sporting clay courses. I still suck on either course.

IMHO, you have to be a very well rounded and competent shooter to be successful at sporting clays. Most of us that shoot Trap and Skeet, we get very familiar with either course of stations and where the birds go, how fast, angle, lead.

You get out onto the SC course and it's a whole other world, especially if you try a few different courses. It seems that a lot of the ranges and course designers like to mix it up and periodically change up the stations too, which makes it that much more fun.

I've only shot SC a few times and the times I did, the amount of targets I hit was disappointingly low. But it's so much fun!

Looks like my local range does have a 5 Stand after all.
