BENELLI M3...LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

I love mine. Sold mine before moving and got an HK Import with the folder as soon as I got to TX.

Contrary to people saying it’s heavier or complicated, it really isn’t. It’s just as good as the other Super 90s. You can’t go wrong with any of them

I’m 42 and have extensive shooting experience with all types of riot and combat shotguns over the years . Never any training in a military setting or with a “Pro” but have literally shot 5 gallon buckets of 00 buck and 1 ounce rifles slugs back when my eyes would roll if I was paying more than .50 cents a round.
By a wide margin my favorite auto loader is a Benelli M3 convertible. Why? Can’t really say other than I’ve owned and shot most of the line ups from the big companies including owning at one point or another Benelli M1,M2 & M4.
They were all sold off for other things but I’ve always gravitate to the M3
I own 2 both H&K imports one with ghost rings and factory pistol grip and a rifle sighted model with factory over folding stock on it .Have factory standard stocks just so a wanker doesn’t give me grief on a public range trip because he doesn’t have one himself .

I really like my M3. I have shot it with 1 oz loads and it cycles fine. I used to use it as my home defense shotgun, but I switched to a Supernova about 4 years ago because it is lighter and easier to handle. The M3 is more of a combat shotgun than a home defense shotgun.

I can only say I have a stoeger m3k, which is a licensed copy of the M2. It runs like a top, has never failed to run but I keep it pretty clean, like I’ve never run more than 120 shells through it without cleaning. I like it enough that I am gonna buy a second one.

The Benelli M3 is my favorite Benelli.
Something about being able to switch from pump to semi-auto, in order to shoot different specialty rounds with 100% reliability, makes me happy.

M3 uses the same inertia recoil system used in M2. Except instead of having the recoil spring in the butt stock, it is upfront around the magazine tube connected to the bolt carrier with an op rod. Additionally, there is a switch that connects or disconnects the op rod with the pump handguard. Once locked to the hand guard, the bolt carrier essentially moves with the gun as it recoils, effectively nullifies the inertia system.

Because of the location of the recoil spring, it handles differently than a M2 (not as balanced). It is really designed for folks that may need to use non-lethal, breaching (or weak) rounds that will not cycle the gun.

It also like other inertia guns, it does not like excessive accessorizing or suffer reliability woes. Extend the mag tube is about as much you really want to add without playing around with the inertia spring.

M4 is a completely different animal as it is gas piston driven.
