12ga Ball & Chain, aka "Bolo" rounds

In 1760 naval parlance, it was call chain shot.

Is this round legal in California?

Not a new concept really. Observe... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...on_projectiles

IMO the effect out of a shotgun would intentionally reduce effective striking/range.

No opinion on legality in Kali.

Have some never fired them yet. I did buy mine while still in California but unsure if law has changed since then.

There's nothing making it illegal, however effectiveness is questionable. Check out Taufledermaus on youtube for all kinds of shotgun ammunition testing with high speed footage and ballistics gel testing. There are better options out there.

We used to make our own for skyscraping geese. They never separated so hitting something was difficult and drilling the shot deformed it.
          They sounded good.

Ballistically, these look like a disaster. Novelty round for sure.

There are CA laws that make some types of exotic shotgun cartridges illegal in CA, but there are no laws/regulations that would make a ball & chain or "bolo" style round illegal in CA.

Shotgun ammo that is illegal in CA:
              Flechette ammo [PC 30210(a)]
              Explosive ammo [PC 30210(b) and 16460(a)(1), 18710, 18730]
              Incendiary ammo [PC 16460(a)(1), 18710, 18730]

              Penal Code 30210
Except as provided in Section 30215 and Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 17700) of Division 2 of Title 2, any person in this state who manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, lends, or possesses either of the following is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170:
              (a) Any ammunition that contains or consists of any flechette dart.
              (b) Any bullet containing or carrying an explosive agent.

              Penal Code 16460Penal Code 18710
              (a) Except as provided by this chapter, any person, firm, or corporation who, within this state, possesses any destructive device, other than fixed ammunition of a caliber greater than .60 caliber, is guilty of a public offense.
              (b) A person, firm, or corporation who is convicted of an offense under subdivision (a) shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for a term not to exceed one year, or in state prison, or by a fine not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or by both this fine and imprisonment.

              Penal Code 18730
Except as provided by this chapter, any person, firm, or corporation who, within this state, sells, offers for sale, or knowingly transports any destructive device, other than fixed ammunition of a caliber greater than .60 caliber, is guilty of a felony and is punishable by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 for two, three, or four years.

                It's not a bolo

                Two balls fired straight

                No swinging
                No real separation

When they do separate one rugs at the other and they don't fly true
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
