Benelli M4 vs. the clones

VersaMax’s gas system is an improved version of the Benelli ARGO system. It’s designed to handle different loads of shells from 2.75 to 3.5 in. However, REM makes them for hunting and clay mostly with shortest barrel at 22”. And they cost half as much as M4 and twice as much as Turkey M4 clones.

Picked up the M4 clone from Tuner's. It definitely uses the same mag tube as the Charles Daly M4 clone (thus normal M4 mag tube will not fit). Finish is good and dry functions fine. The grip and stock angle is no different than Benelli M4. Consider the cost, pretty happy with it.

My son-in-law has a Toros Copolla T4 and it's a decent shotgun, I was looking at them for ~$800 and the shop I was in had a Beretta 1301 tactical for $1200... Once I handled the Beretta it was over, it felt quicker, the controls seemed intuitive. I spent the extra coin for the 1301, I am well pleased with the decision regardless of the wife's protestations.

PSA has a Black Aces version for $429. I haven't seen a review of that actual gun though.

Here is my Turknelli: Hatsan Escort MPA. I had to polish everything with flitz, replace every screw and pin along with plenty of red loctite, greased everything and Weapon Shield oil where applicable, Wolfe extra power spring, upgraded follower , adaptors for Magpul stock and Limbsaver which make it about 1/4” too long but it works . About 300 rounds through it. Works well … now. I’ll feel better at 1k. Really fun to shoot. Replaced the sights too . When I bought this , there were no Mossbergs in stock. I’ll probably sell this and eventually get a 1301. The plus 4 extension has been replaced with a plus 3. It’s 7+1.

I don't think it is a Benelli clone. Gas system is not the ARGO. Bolt design is completely different too.

My versamax was the best benelli clone I ever got.

I'm sure BajaJames83 would agree as was discussed in the "Alias Remelli" thread that you're going beyond just being a clone w/actual Benelli "drop-in" parts in the Versamax.



A number of folks have replaced their Versamax guts/internals w/Benelli guts and calling them "Remelli's".

I love the Remington R12 particularly w/its shroud over the barrel, and even though folks are down on Remington, the Versamax and this R12 where U can upgrade w/actual Benilli internals is sweet..... at least to me.

What is that shroud over the mag tube? Pretty cool. Where are they sold?

The shroud comes w/that version of the Remington Versamax R12 Police gun, and I loved the fact that they included the shroud, which ment all I had to do was buy the rails from Cadex and screw them on the shroud to mount whatever accessories I wanted on the gun.

I paid $1600 for my M4 at Turner's in 2014. Not 1 regret.

Govt won't let me have a SPAS tho
