Look at the "stickies" at the top of this thread. Sometimes there are classes listed. But it seems a few are on hold. Good luck

I have two unused trap shooting books/manuals for sale. See my posting here:

      Define clays.

Trap, Skeet or Sporting Clays? You could watch some YouTube videos to discern the difference.

Trap, skeet or sporting clays? Targets going away from you, targets crossing in front of you or targets coming from all over. As far as fun goes, trap is the least exciting, skeet is good and sporting is a blast.

Oak Tree Gun Club in Newhall has all three. Moore-N-Moore in Sylmar is a sporting range. I would hire an instructor for a sporting clays lesson M-n-M for a lesson and go from there. There are quite a few guys on here that will chime in soon with much better info.

One word of caution, clays are orange crack. Very addictive and your new found "habit" will eat up a lot of your disposable income. Good luck!

Start with skeet less intensive to start. Then transition to sporting clays a more challenging discipline. If you plan on hunting then sporting clays is best for that to train up.

Go shoot, and have fun. You may not need lessons.

Start by watching youtube on how to shoot clays.

Find a trap range. Start there. The guys/gals there will give you lots of advice. If you miss, you're probably shooting behind it. Trap is easiest to "get."

Then, find a skeet range. You'll get a lot of tips there too. Get adequate at trap, then skeet, then go to a sporting clays range.

You'll have a lot of fun doing it.

Then, buy a MEC 9000 reloading machine. Save $$$$.

Find a reliable shooting partner. Make sure they tip at lunch afterwards.

First, do you have a suitable gun?

Second, where in Ventura county do you live?

Call ranges within the area you are willing to drive and ask if they offer instruction and ask if they have rental guns(if you don't have one). Paying for a couple hours of instruction up front is well worth the expense.

If you just want to jump right in and shoot, I can meet you at Moore-N-Moore or LA Clays most Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. I have extra guns, 12 and 28ga, if you don't have one, but you will need to pay for your targets and shells.

LA Clays has Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, Moore-N-Moore is Sporting Clays only.

I have a Beretta 1301 shotgun. More tactical than sport, I believe.

                          I live in Ventura.

I would love to meet up and be given the chance to try it out as a beginner.

                          Thanks

You can't shoot a tactical shotgun at a clays range.

Minimum barrel length is usually 26"
                            No pistol grips on shotguns.

Take Ceh383 up on his VERY VERY generous offer. He is basically offering you a free lesson which is like $100. He's an amazing clays shooter with tons of experience who will get you squared away.

Some ranges allow 21" barrels. But 18.5" is a no-no. The 1301 is a nice gun and perhaps longer barrels are available for it. And take off the rail.
