Here's my suggestion; Esstac shotgun cards/plates. Choose the color and round-quantity.

Brown coat tactical. Randy swears by them. And that's good enough for me.

Sounds like nobody like the mesa rail huh? I just thought it looked awesome but read it added weight.

the metal rails arent really that practical. Once it runs dry, then you gotta reload it one shell at a time. Instead, the shotgun cards allow you to pull the empty one and slap a fresh one on. They usually can fit into a standard mag pouch, depending on how the round count.

Also, i think i read somewhere that those metal side saddles can sometimes obscure the serial #, or have to use existing trigger pin holes. Also if you ever have to carry your slung shotgun for a long period of time, it can become uncomfortable (well, depending on carry style).

Lastly, you can get quite a few shotgun cards for the price of the carrier

The problem with the Hard Side Saddles is that when they are empty they are still hooked to the gun and generally in the way.

The Velcro ones attach to the receiver with a piece of Velcro Tape and are quickly removable. There is a fuzzy patch of Velcro tape left on the gun which is easy to get along with.. if you decide you don't want it you can just rip it off and clean the glue off with brake cleaner, and no one would know there was a Side Saddle ever on the gun. There is no Drilling and Tapping for holes in the receiver to mount like on the Plastic Side Saddles.

Plus when you empty the card that is on the gun you simply rip it off and slap an loaded one back on and you are good to go for the next 6-8 shots..

It takes way more time to reload a plastic side saddle, and you can't just take it off. It has screws holding it on the receiver.

The Brown Coat Tactical product is the best one I have personally seen. At $15 or so bucks they are hard to beat. They are very tight when you first get them and it takes some effort to get shells in them initially, but they eventually loosen up a bit. I haven't worn one out yet.

Learning how to use these in conjunction with Port Loading the gun is covered on the "What I Did to My Shotguns" thread above. There is a learning curve but once you get the hang of it when used in conjunction with Port Loading the gun you will see the value of the Velcro style ammo carrier.

              Randy.

I find added weight is not necessarily a bad thing for a pump shotgun, because the more weight you have the more recoil is absorbed.

Thank you for the detailed explanation
I totally see why velcro is better than fixed for real world application
