    Mossberg 500A questions

About 30 years ago I bought a Big 5 Mossberg 500A. It has the 28" vent rib barrel. I want to convert it to a HD gun. Should I just shop for an 18.5" barrel or send it someplace to have it cut down? Besides Vangs, is there someplace else I should consider?
    Thanks in advance.

Nah, find yourself the barrel you want and roll with it. If you ever want to go break clays it's an easy swap. Short vent ribs look weird in my opinion anyways.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

I sort of agree with Blue. Buy a new barrel, and keep the long one you have. When you are shopping, you may find another 28" barrel cheaper than an 18.5", so buy that and cut it.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I have a Beretta O/U for clays. I do agree that short ribbed barrels look weird. I guess I'll start shopping.

I've tried shooting clays, and I'm terrible at it. So I would chop the barrel and not lose any sleep whatsoever. And if, for some unknown reason, I ever wanted to take up shooting clays, I would either buy a 28" barrel or a brand new shotgun.
