Old Mossberg 500 20ga front sling mount

I picked up an older model Mossberg 500 in 20ga. It has the nut built into the barrel if that makes sense and not a magazine screw on cap. I was wondering what you like for a front sling mount?

    Looks like this

I picked up a Hogue overmold short stock for it because I wanted to shorten the LOP so my kid could use it so the rear sling attachment is taken care of. What do I do for the front?

Certainly more options for the 12gauge over the 20.

GG&G has a few Mossberg 500 sling mounts. GG&G does tend toward the tactical/combat gear. They may be other solutions out there.

Browse a huge inventory of Gear including Tactical Gear, Gun Cases & Storage, Range Gear, & Slings & Sling Swivels with 1,619 products In Stock with 4.5 rating on 3,990 reviews from verified buyers.

Here's an Uncle Mike's brand which replaces the barrel bolt. I'm hoping there's no difference between the 12 & 20 gauge barrel retention bolts.

Note, I couldn't find that #18102 front sling mount kit on the UncleMikes.com website. I'd be concerned it might become discontinued. Order soon if so.

Here's another brand if that's of interest:

I looked at GG&G and it said 12 gauge only.

I'm trying to find out for sure on the Uncle Mikes part but my search so far says that's 12 ga only too.

I had an old 80's version of the 20ga 500. IIRC, either the center hole on the barrel retaining nut was tapped for a sling swivel screw, or else the bottom of the retaining lug was. Can't remember exactly. Wither way, should be easy to drill/tap a hole, then use a standard Uncle Mike's (or similar) sling stud for the forward sling mount.

        Like so:

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

If your "Barrel Nut" is tapped either on the end or side, all you do is thread an Uncle Mikes Sling Swivel Stud (10-32 thread) into it and then use an Uncle Mikes QD Sling Swivel like shown above.

That's all there is to it.

I guess I lucked out. The gun did not come with the threaded Barrel Nut but as luck would have it when I picked up the gun from the FFL they had a longer used barrel on the rack that fit the gun for $75. That barrel had the threaded nut.

I figured that was a good score for a longer barrel and didn't realize the nut was different.
