Mossberg 590A1 Retrograde thoughts

Now, I'm thinking I need to make an extension for my extension

I did some playing with my gun. It's a 590A1, 18.5" barrel, 6 +1. I guess they could have made it hold 7+1 2 3/4" shells by running the mag extension all the way to the end of the barrel. Maybe they didn't want to have it split like that.

I have a few 590A1's, including the Retrograde. I love the Retrograde, with its 'retro' look.

The LOP is on the long(er) side -- 13.87" IIRC. It is okay with me, but a bit too long for my wife. Just make sure to shoulder it at your LGS, and feel if the LOP fits you well.

For the guys with the 590a1 retro - what kind of front sight do you guys have? I have a white xs dot, but all the others I've seen are a red tip. I wonder how else the xs white dot is different.

I had a standard 590A1. Its was a great shotgun but the 20" barrel is really long. Its more a "combat" shotgun than a home shotgun. I ended up trading mine towards something else, but I didnt have any complaints.

I bought an old 18.5" barrel with open sights for my 870 express that came with 28" barrel. So thats my HD/hunting shotgun.

I think the retrograde looks like a great shotgun. I'd be tempted to get one. But dont have any use or desire for another shotgun. I'm a one shotgun guy. But I can never have too many other guns.

If I need more than four shotgun shells for HD, I'll wish I picked up the AK or AR instead.

I use a big dot on my 590 and have had it on there for years. Better for me to pick up and I shoot slugs out of it with good accuracy.

Mine has a red color (little rectangular shape) front sight. I forgot exactly when I bought mine, it was one of the first ones arrived at my LGS.

The -1.5" loses -2 in mag capacity going from the 20" to the 18.5". That's a pretty stiff penalty for 1.5 inches.

That's a strange mix, mine is a retrograde but has a front sight for a magpul edition.

True for the 500 not true for the 590's.
