Can someone identify this pin? (Moss 590)

    Hi all,

Can anyone identify where this pin goes in a Mossberg 590?

I was cleaning mine last night and after disassembling I noticed this tiny pin on the table. That was the only gun I was working with, and there weren't any tools around that it could've come from. Also it's a folding table that I'd just set up so it couldn't have been there already.

I've cleaned the gun before but don't recall ever seeing this. I couldn't find it on the manual's parts diagram either. After reassembling (without the pin) the function check--pump, trigger, action release, safety--all worked.

    Thanks for any help!

Just a guess. It looks like the magazine cap detent, that little part is staked into the barrel ring and prevents the cap from loosening during use.

Thanks man! Looks like you nailed it. I looked into it more based on your info and apparently there was a spring in that little hole as well, which I've definitely lost. Hopefully it'll turn up in a very careful garage sweeping...
