    Targets and Shotguns.

I was at Burro Canyon the other day i brought my saiga-12 out to play for the first time. I rented a target and i mentioned to the guy that i dont plan on getting any money back at all because the target is going to be destroyed. at the end of my shoot, it really was destroyed! i ended up shooting at the dirt hill because there was nothing standing, i had to break in the gun. Anyways, my main question is what is the cheapest thing to use for a target with a shotgun? Any input is appreciated, Thanks!

A case of clay pigeons is pretty cheap......the cardboard circle that comes with frozen pizza's, old phone books (messy), paper plates, steel circle targets (spendy up front but cheaper in the long run - reusable)........

rebar and some old milk jugs work great and don't make a big mess.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Bowling pins. Seriously, unless you're pounding them with slugs, you can hit them all day.

You alreay did it. The dirt bank. I use a dirt bank. I rake it clean then use the bush I used to rake it as a stick and I draw four or five shapes the size of a man in the dirt. I back off and shoot. See, I don't use sights, I simply point and fire. My head is up and I am looking at the shape and don't even see my weapon. The dirt bank gives me a perfect look at my pattern striking so if I have to, and I rarely do, I can adjust the next shot. Shotguns are close quarter weapons and nano seconds matter in a gun fight. I don't understand the need to sight a shotgun. There is a reason they call them scatter guns.......try my method.....you will thank me later...oh yea, this is not always possible at a gun range. Finding a private place may be required.

You can make your own target stands for cheap. Then you can use whatever targets you want for your shotgun (paper, cardboard):

Look at my post #7; 1x2's are very cheap so you can afford to destroy them.

We use Action Targets.. "evil Roy" cowboy target stands.. the largest plate and we buy rifle quality steel...will stand up to countless birdshot/buck loads and will do well with slugs... although slugs will eventually pound the welds into submission....but that would take alot of slugs...

Keep your range clean, safe, and fully stocked with high-quality targets, PPE, cleaning supplies, and more—available now at Shop.ActionTarget.com.

They are priced right and you could order a coupla and then shoot them with shotgun/pistol/rifle....at the suggested distances of course...keep them at 15 yds or so and don't put the stands on a concrete base...soft dirt is best...they fold up and store well but they are heavy....they also allow for varying heights of plate placement... a good sturdy stand and mine have survived several shotgun and pistol classes where they recieved thousands of strikes... a good target...for individual practice too...

Whats wrong with a box of clays? 90 for $9 is pretty cheap and they clearly show hit and misses. Buy a case of 100 Remington sport loads and a box of 90 clays at Walmart for $38.

Get your teenaged son to throw unopened Pepsi cans for you. Best targets ever. Get it on sale for about $ 0.25 a can
