Installing a Vent rib on a old 870

Back when we were dating - 1980's - I bought my wife a X prefix/large frame 20 Gauge 870. Many guns later (she now shoots a Benelli SS) she has decided that she would like a Vent Rib installed on it. Not sure why...she has not shot it in years, but I like to keep her happy.

I have shopped barrels for that gun, but have never, ever seen one for sale.

So. Any recommendations? I see some shops talk about a Aluminum rib that is glued on - any comments on those?

This is one place I have found - http://shotgunbarrelsandstocks.com/vent-ribs/ anyone have experience with these guys? Anyone else?

Awwww yes, the old Wingmaster 20ga "Standard" frame and barrel.

I would buy a new/used barrel before applying a vented rib to the barrel.
Look at Corson barrels, they usually have a few used barrels around with vented ribs and various barrel lengths and chokes.

Or ebay. If a quarter can fit through the magazine ring, then the barrel is a "standard" size 20ga barrel.

    Best regards,
    870classic.

A friend had Simmons add a rib to an old Model 12 and it turned out great. They can probably do an 870 rib, but the matting may not match Rem factory matting. An alternative might be to find a beater 870 barrel with a rib, and relay that rib onto your barrel. Gun may not be worth that expense, but it should look factory.

I have one of those standard frame 870 20s (with a 28" VR Mod barrel) and it's a nice piece. Swings surprisingly well.

          Ducky's Dad....want to trade barrels? 😀

I have a email into Corsons Barrels. I am hoping they might have one hidden in the back room... nothing shows on their webpage.

I have one of those 870 large framed 20 ga[1975]. Great handling/shooting shotgun. No rib, no plans. It's my dove/quail gun. Love it. Not to mention beautiful wood.

If you're in SoCal Bob Day (https://www.americhoke.com/) might have ideas or even something in a room that could help you.
