    1100 barrel length ?

What is the shortest legal length that i could cut an old barrel down to and still be legal in the PRK? its going to have a stndard stock on it no floding or telescoping, i blew up a barrel a long time ago(young and stupid) and want to cut it for home defense.

Edit:also is there a magazine capacity limit??

    thanks,kevin

The barrel has to be 18" to meet Federal law (CA same) measured from the breech face to the end of the barrel. I would leave it 1/4" longer for safety sake.

Fixed magazines are limited to 10 rounds.

The 1100 can be sensitive to barrel length changes, depending on what kind of loads you'll be putting through it.

After cutting it down, test it with the the ammo you plan on using in it. If it doesn't cycle as well, you'll need to open up one or both of the gas ports a little (magnums only have one gas port).

It's pretty easy to do - the trick is to go slow and test it out.

You said you blew the barrel up and now want to cut it down. If this is correct I assume you ruptured the end of the barrel. The problem if this is true is that the damage to the barrel may not be visible with your eyes. You could very well have stress fractures in the barrel that you can not see and cutting it down is not a good idea . It could be very dangerous to shoot this barrel. It could work for many rounds but if damaged it could fracture with the first round or 500th round. I recomend you do not do this. Get the barrel you want from Remington they make an 18.5" barrels for the 1100. It is part number 400335 and only cost $165.00. Do not risk your safety and others near you when using a weapon with a damaged barrel.
