This is a personal preference type of thing. The good thing about the Magpul stock is that it is adjustable for LOP and Comb Height, and the type of recoil pad you use.

This could come in handy, as fitting the gun is kind of important and unless you are John Q Public, it might be necessary to adjust the fit so the gun doesn't beat the snot out of you?

That's my problem with a lot of the stuff Magpul makes. It's heavier than what it's replacing.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic stock, and as W.R. mentioned above you can use the stock recoil pad or add a different recoil pad (I added a Limbsaver made for a Remington to my 590A1 with the adapter Magpul offers) and it did make a difference w/ recoil.

The Beretta 1301 I just took home does have a short LOP for me as a taller person, but it did come with two spacers to add (1" and 2" spacer) and the stock recoil pad seems decent.

That appears to be sourced from Mesa tactical and is super close to the bennelli in feel. Mesa makes rock solid parts and worth going with if pistol grip is your desire.

A little extra weight on a 12 ga Shotgun is NOT a bad thing !!! Especially if you are going to shoot it very much..

Also the fact that the Magpul Stock is built to take some abuse is not a bad thing either.

You will thank them for the design when you Butt Stroke some fool and the stock doesn't break.

Great minds think alike. The original 1301 stock, butt stroke to the head doesn't mean much. The magpul stock though...win/win.

I have light and heavy semi-autos. They recoil about the same IMHO.

Buttstroking someone with that big fat Limbsaver on your Magpul stock isn't going to do much. Plus, the stock buttstock is also plenty strong enough to buttstroke.

It may not break the skin, but it will definitely have an effect. The momentum of the hit is what does the damage and with an 8 lb. gun behind it, it will still hurt.
