Just ordered a Benelli M4 - must have accessories? advice?

Apologies in advance if these questions have been butchered on here already.

I first would like to thank Mr. Wick for my reason of acquiring this fine Italian classic.

I would greatly appreciate any advice and links to recommended accessories.

    1) Extended magazine tube, it seems most are recommending the FFT steel one for $200? is this the move to make?

    2) So many sling options, which is the best you have found for the M4?

    3) Same with the side saddle, seems like the Mesa Tactical is popular, is there another alternative? Perhaps something less invasive than adding the rail on top?

    4) Anything else? (I don't really plan to use any optics, as I've heard the ghost rings are fantastic) Maybe a flashlight add-on?

    Thank you!

Disclaimer: I do not own an M4... but am considering one.

Last month, GarandThumb did a good review of the M4 and how his is set up.

Here are some of my notes from the video:

There are a number of options for replacement magazine tubes. CarrierComp seems to be highly rated.

Here is a thread on BenelliUSA about replacement mag tubes.

If you don't care about 922r you could get an original magazine tube and spring.

Hands down the best tube on the market is from Carrier Comp. Alternatively, "Dave's Metal Works" is also supposed to make a very good product.

I would go with either of them before I went with FFT...And I'd go with anyone else before FFT on any other products. Note...I am not a fan of FFT. To my knowledge they've never screwed anyone over. I just don't think their quality is that good and particularly if it happens to be something that is new to market. YMMV.

You'll also want to make sure you are up to speed on 922R compliance as swapping out the tube for a US made tube will require the swapping of other components for US parts as well...if you are in the camp that end users are subject to 922R on the m4.

To that end I have no interest in debating whether 922R is relevant here. There's plenty of info on the internet on this...FFT has a white paper on their site btw...and there are copies of ATF letters expressing their opinion on this. So do your research and decide for yourself if you are affected.

Also, the forum over on Benelli's site is probably the best source for info on mods and parts related to the m4. At least it used to be. Folk there are pretty helpful...at least they used to be.

Good luck! And may the odds be ever in your favor!

i went with the carrier comp ti tube (though i would have definitely considered the briley carbon fiber tube if i was aware if it). the carrier comp tube comes with a us-made follower so that put u at 2 us-made parts. i also went with fft stainless steel 3/4” charging handle in black. i also picked up the kz oversized handle. haven’t decided which i like better. picked up the gg&g bolt release (probably my favorite upgrade so far). taran tactical oversized safety. mesa tactical urbino stock with cheek riser and pocket push sling mount. also have a magpul ms4 1/2 point sling. future upgrades will probably include briley short lop trigger on an A&S aluminum trigger guard and trijicon sro on scalarworks mount and an ava light mount if it ever comes back in stock otherwise i will probably settle on the iwc.

forgot to mention the esstac and brown coat tactical (recommended by calgunner wr buchanon) 7rd side saddles velcro’d to the receiver.

I put a magpul QD/Paraclip adapter in it on the left and I have a magpul MS1 sling with a paraclip up front on the left and it goes around the back and through the OEM sling loop on the right side of the stock at the back.

Dave's Metal Works makes an excellent replacement tube and other parts.

Solid list and options from Cali-Glock.

Regarding the Sling Option, I found the Mesa Tactical mount locations to be lacking. You can add/customize your own Noveske QD Mount on the stock.

Flush QD Mount for plastic stocks or handguards.-Steel QD mount and nut-Low-Profile-4 Position, rotation limited-Can be mounted in most hollow plastic...

I placed an order for a carrier comp tube on April 28th. I received a Phone-call Sept 14th to complete the order which should ship in 2 weeks.

Check with CC as to their lead times. The 8 week lead time they have listed in their website may be a bit underestimated.

Here was a thread I started a few years back regarding 922r compliance and my struggles at that time to swap out the mag tube on my M4. (In my defense, there was a crap-ton of red loctite). This may help other owners new to the M4.

Re. the post above mine... It took me 6 months to get my Carrier Comp tube.

I would reward yourself with a 4 or 5 day tactical shotgun class

Get some trigger time running drills.

The more you use the shotgun the more you will know what works for you!

Agree w/above on side saddle, they are so last decade. See the TFB youtube on the 1301 for details on the velcro attached shell carrier.

Don’t change a thing just yet, put a few boxes of different loads of shells through it see if you are going to like shooting it for what you need it for.
