Rem 870 Scope Mounts for Plain or Ribbed

I was checking for any scope mount changes on the one I purchased for my M1 Garand from www.amegaranges.com and noticed they have Rem 870 mounts plus others.

I am not sure this will work if you need accuracy with slugs. The reason receiver mounted scope mounts do not work well on an 870 is simply that the barrel is held on by the mag cap and not pinned or threaded as a rifle barrel, so the scope is sighted to the receiver and not the barrel so each time you take the barrel off and put it back on or even fire the weapon the POA will change. this is why shotgun barrels have Cantilever mounts so the scope is sighted to the barrel not the receiver. You can sight in a Cantilever mount and it remains true. Does this issue matter from a smooth bore with slugs at 50 yards, no, but with a rifled barrel at 100+ which the new sabot slugs are for, then yes....all comes down to what the scope is for..... The new mount in this thread seems like a great concept for tatical sighting optics where accuracy is not so much an issue at close quarters.....

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.
