A SPAS 12 is like a 1985 Ferrari. It looks cool, but it's not better than most current shotguns.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

It's also a named assault weapon in California.
Can't sell or purchase one here.
Can't bring one into Ca. Can't possess one unless it was registered as an assault weapon.

Used to. Too heavy and unwieldy. Also, the pump action mode, while smooth feels sluggish compared to a Rem 870. Otherwise cool concept if not perfect execution.

Had one back in the day.
Bought it cash and carry for 200 bucks from a friend.

The mechanism to switch from pump to semi was all locked up.

I took the thing apart and cleaned a bunch of carbon out all then it switched back-and-forth just fine.

But despite being Squeaky clean and lubed up I never could get 100% reliability in semi auto mode with any ammo.

Weak ejection no matter the load.

In pump mode it worked just fine.

Sold it for a nice profit before the assault weapons ban.

It looks cooler than it really is.

Same experience for me. After a few attempts, I only used it in pump action. Couldn't trust it in semi-auto.

Here is a similar gun from Benelli. I think these are somewhat rare, but still catalogued.

Beretta Holding Group owns Beretta, Franchi, and Benelli.

After the Beretta Holding Group acquired Benelli, they had Franchi discontinue the SPAS-12 and SPAS-15 due to Benelli having the better semi-auto/pump-action selectable shotgun.
