Years ago I inherited a single shot 32 gauge Iver Johnson "Champion". It came with two boxes of older paper shells, shot well and ejected well. Found a dealer who had only plastic shells, any body remember "the scrounger" catalog somewhere out of northern California? Bought a case of Fiocchi plastic shells, first shot-no ejection, second shot same thing, hulls stuck in the chamber and had to use a wooden dowel to push the spent hulls out but an unfired shell would always eject properly every time. Bummer.
Many years pass by until this labor Day. Several days before the holiday I took four shells to the bench grinder, each one a different grind from just removing the crimp (not a petal but a short rollover edge) to carefully side grinding the length of the shells to different diameter depths. They all fired and ejected perfectly!
Least amount of grinder time was the removal of the crimp-10/15 seconds. They transported without any pellet loss, loaded same and fired well.
