    Nothing to do this weekend.

So our range which is located in the Los Padres National Forest is closed from yesterday to 9/17 due to Gavin's inability to manage our forests.

My club and others located in a National Forest are out of commission for 3 weeks?

Sounds like someone trying to put their thumb on us again as punishment for his stinking poll numbers.

So I'll be watching TV this weekend instead of shooting a 3 Gun at the SB Range. If your venue is located in a National Forest in CA you are shut down too!

No Skeet practice tomorrow at the OVGC !

Maybe I'll shoot my pellet guns in the garage?

Unless you used a .45-70 lever carbine and 540 grain Garrett Hammerheads +P we're not interested.

Sounds like someone trying to put their thumb on us again as punishment for his stinking poll numbers.

It's due to poor forest management and extended drought. It's one thing to deal with the 30 or 40+ large fires throughout the state right now and it's another to be a tourist or camper trapped, surrounded by wildfire and needing rescue... hence the temporary closures.

We can thank the forest management or the lack thereof to the Bambiists and the "environmentalists" who somehow convinced liberal politicians that NOTHING should be touched! in the forest... allowing ground cover to grow unabated when for centuries Native Americans then trappers, settlers and ranchers who learned from their predecessors administered controlled burns.

But now the monkeys are running the circus and we're left stroking our bores.

Our club received written permission from the local ranger to use the National Forest road to access our range. But it's only one mile from the pavement to our gate.

Management of the NATIONAL Forests has very little to do with Gavin Newsome, a STATE governor. And the fire policy is very long standing, in fact it started with a REPUBLICAN president, the revered (rightly so) Theodore Roosevelt, using experts who favored a German model of management.

The solution to these problems is long-term policy change and needs to be based on science, not politics nor next-quarter economics. Nature (fire, viruses, etc.) just doesn't give a rat's *** about those things and the sooner we figure that out, the longer our society will survive.

Politicizing everything, blaming someone, expressing personal indignation about every event just amounts to hiding your head in the sand when it comes to natural events. We need action based on facts, not feelings nor short-term personal interests.

I agree that forest policies need fundamental change and National Forest policies need change at the national (and that means Federal level). We won't get that by whining about our day-to-day discontents and inconveniences--write your Senator and ask for scientific-based changes.

Those that have served in Germany have seen the Black Forest, a purely artificial, highly managed area. It doesn't burn. But it takes policy, and yes, rules and tax funding to manage things that way and enforce the rules. If you are willing to pay for expensive outdoor toys, but not for management, or are unwilling to obey the necessary rules, you won't have forests to play in in the future.

And yes, get a hunting license. It is a form of tax and still in our best interests, even if we don't even get to hunt THIS year. The politicians count those numbers and make policy decisions based on them. No PROVEN, countable, interest in hunting on our part means they will listen only to those who want to kill hunting.

                            Gents-

                            It's a power grab

A one sided decision to close public land.

                            No public Debate

Any Old farts recall when the Kentucky shooting area was closed by one liberal fire / forestry person?

                            One order- CLOSED

Ignored all outrage for no public input.... and then they pulled the EPA card-

The facility- public land- would need environmental Impact studies for $250,000 to reopen the public land for shooting.....

While I get why the forests are closed- there is no due process and that is just WRONG or illegal
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

                              I saw this differently...

While I disagree with some of the silly things that Newsom does, closing the National forests is not his call to make and I seriously doubt he attempted to. The forest service made the call.

For those not up on current events... the forest service is a little bit busy these days fighting some significant fires. Two of them are even worse the fires we had burning last year.

Its all hands on deck with those other fires. The forest service simply does not have the resources to support the other forests on a busy weekend. If some body gets attacked by an animal, or a hiker gets lost or even worse.. some dingleberry were to accidentally start a fire, they could not help. So their answer is for everybody to stay home.

Over the past two years, I have come to fully realize the stupidity of the people. You can't trust people to be safe and responsible and protect the forest as if it was their own home.

So the few responsible people have nothing to do this weekend.
                              Maurice
