Bismuth 410, see how this works...

Getting ready for the dove opener with my little Quail Hammerless 410 SxS. Soft shot required. Factory non-tox is not an option due to cost and availability. So a new Mec 600jr set for 2 1/2" 410 ($240), a 10 pound bag of #9 Bismuth from Rotometal's ($172), BAG OF 500 Claybuster wads ($13), H110 powder and Federal 209a primers (already in stock). Being bismuth the shot load dropped is less than 1/2 oz but the volume is correct. I have 200 rounds loaded up (a bit over $2 a round so far), we will see how this works out. I knew I had been saving all those 410 empties for some reason...

I'll be watching for your update. My favorite "go to" bird gun is a Fausti DEA SxS .410 with "really tight" fixed Full chokes. Before I go in debt for a box of Bismuth .410, I want to make sure I don't damage the barrels.

A 10 lb bag of shot will load 360 rounds of .410, all the other components are negligible. So .50-.60 per round?

If you are planning to shoot any .410 very much you have to Reload.

When I bought my .410 O/U I went to trapshooters.com and bought a Pacific DL266 in .410 for $250 and 1000 O/F Win AA and HS Hulls for $150. I just finished the first run thru the of hulls and started on the second last week.

A 25 lb bag of shot will load @800 rounds and I just opened my second bag a few weeks ago. I love that the Claybuster Wads are Red. Our Skeet Field has them laying all over the place and everyone came from my gun!

The good thing about your Bismuth Loads is you only have to use them for Hunting, Everything else can be Lead shot,,, For now.

Well the bismuth did just fine. The little Quail Hammerless seems no worse for the wear. Not the most successful dove hunt ever, but we got 8. At least enough for my annual dove dinner!
