Mossberg 500 Accessories Question

I think I'm going to be getting a Mossberg 500 pretty soon and I've been searching through old threads and I noticed all the different accessories available for it. I'm going to be getting it from Big 5 (most likely) but not sure if I'm going to get the combo set (2 barrels; 28" and 18.5") or the Security model (20").

I want to make it a pistol grip but not sure what the benefits are. Is it less accurate? Easier to shoot? Will I need the front grip as well? Whats the benefit of that?

I also want a folding stock that holds extra ammo. Is this available?

Also want a drilled heat sheild because I think it looks pretty bad *** with it

Lastly, I'll be looking for a sling that holds extra ammo as well. Where could I find one like this?

Price point is going to be your biggest factor here. If this is going to be a home defense gun id recommend ATI's 6 position adjustable stock plus this side saddle for the stock. The folding stock can be easily removed leaving only the pistol grip and the sock is predrilled for their side saddle. That way all you have to do is screw the side saddle on. Removing the stock and leaving just the pistol grip requires just unscrewing the retaining pin. The stock and the side saddle will run you under a hundred. I suggest looking on ebay because a lot of sellers have free shipping. I'd also recommend the persuader/defender model if it is for HD. Firing comfort isn't going to be a huge factor if it's an HD gun, but i'd recommend keeping the stock on. Adrenaline will only protect your wrist for so long. They also sell a heat shield but it's all but worthless.

thanks for the info...that pic is exactly what I'm looking for, although its not foldable. Whats different/better about the persuader/defender model?

If I decide to get a different stock, like one that is foldable, aren't there side saddles that mount onto the front of the gun rather than the stock?

Also, any info about the front grip? I kind of think they looks cool, but whats the main purpose?

Before you run out and buy this,that and the other thing. Bring it to the range with a couple hundred rounds of cheap birdshot and shoot it. get a good sense of how it runs before you start changing things.
If you do decide that you want to add a few things then go for it. I would NOT use a sling that is designed to hold ammo, too heavy go for a good 1 or 2 point sling. Pistol grip only,, no fun on the hand and wrist. I would stay with a traditional stock, maybe a shorter LOP ( length of pull).

Pistol grip and side saddle. You can always put the regular stock back on if you go target shooting. Agree that ammo and sling dont mix.

I'd say make sure you at least hold all configs you like.I personally prefer NO pistol grip ona 500 or 590 type w/similar safeties.Due to the ergonomics of taking it off safe .W/ pistol grip the finger has to come farther away from trigger,w/standard type stock,it's just a flick of the thumb.

I agree. If you get a sling, dont get one with ammo loops. If you think about how much ammo your shotgun hold, plus the extra ammo in the side saddle, how much more you need to defend your home? I have a 500 20", it holds 8 shells, plus 4 more in the receiver side saddle, thats 12 rounds of 00buck. I run an ATI full length pistol grip butt stock, its easy to maneuver and fire.
