Relax, I've made a decision

Yesterday I drove 6 hrs round trip to shoulder and rent/shoot some over unders. Coyote Valley Sporting Clays in Morgan Hill. I hired an instructor for the time to teach and critique gun fit. The Browning guns did not feel comfortable. They felt like my Glocks. I shot a couple of boxes through it. Great guns, but the ergonomics aren't right for me. That's unfortunate, because if I was buying based strictly on aesthetics, I would be a 725 owner.

The Beretta Silver Pigeon 1 was a better fit. LOP was a little long for me according to my instructor. (Guns are shipped with a "mid thickness" pad. Beretta sells a thinner and a thicker recoil pad) I busted a whole lot more clays than I anticipated. I shot several boxes of shells at $16.99/box. OUCH!! Rental guns mean you shoot their ammo.

Holy Hell shooting sporting clays is fun! I do have another course a little closer, but they don't rent guns. I'm so happy that I hired an instructor. There is nothing like expert coaching.

It was a fairly expensive day, but well worth the money. I made it home in time to order a Silver Pigeon 1 Sporting with 30" barrels from Joel Etchen Guns.

I even have a pair of Ranger Shooting glasses coming from Trapper John. Life is good.

That sounded like a great day and a very smart day to wait to order your gun to confirm which fit you the best. I really enjoy shooting sporting clays but only seem to do it about 1 time a year

Glad to hear it worked out, shooting sporting clays is definitely fun and that's a pretty nice spot to do it. Might have but a bit pricey in the short term, but long term it's way cheaper than buying and selling a couple different guns to find one that works so I think you made the right call.

You wont regret it sir. I love mine, in fact if i am allowed to only keep 1 of my 4 firearms. My 1301 Marine Tactical is my favorite, never in my life i ever thought im gonna love shooting a shotgun.

I sold my 686 three months ago. What's funny is my Perazzi broke a spring at the State warmup over a month ago while shooting FITASC. The guy I sold the 686 to was on my squad at the time. I was forced to use his new gun to finish the event which I ended up winning. LOL

I never imagined going back to the 686 from what I shoot now, but I wonder if I made a mistake?

I bet it was a leaf spring. My understanding is that is a common issue, but they are easy to change...You just need to have a spare

You are correct. I had an extra set in my car, but I didn't have the time to change them during the event. I had my first malfunction and was given a second chance, but it happened again and I lost the bird due to FITASC rules. The guy I sold the 686 to said I could use his gun which I did for the rest of the event. I then changed the springs to finish the other events for that weekend.

Does that gun have the drop-out trigger group?
If so, that is a real quick change...if you have one.
On my Zoli, I can remove and install the trigger group in less than 2 minutes.

Yes it's a drop out, but the extra springs were in my car which would have taken a few minutes to get them. The ref told me they had to keep going and based on that I would have lost at least two more birds for not shooting them. Since the guy offered me to shoot his new gun, I went ahead and did so. He laughed after the results came in realizing I won. So did I.
