California State shoot 2021

I'm in my third year of shooting and my third time shooting the Ca State Championship. Great experience at L.A. Clays with Jun running this tournament the last four days. Targets weren't too hard, but they were still fun. I only got 1 punch from the prelim 5 stand event, but had a great time. Scores were low for me in the beginning, but I finished yesterday with a score I was comfortable with considering...

One thing I learned was a rule I never knew regarding the FITASC event. Don't do what I did..

I had a single target to shoot at and I had a second shell to shoot if needed. Once I called 'pull' I shot the target but missed it, then immediately I pulled the trigger again only to get a 'click'. The ref told me it was a do over, but I didn't realize something. I then loaded my gun, called 'pull', pulled the trigger the first time and hit the bird. The ref said: "Lost bird". WTH!!!!!!!!

Apparently in the rule book if you have that kind of malfunction on the second trigger pull YOU MUST EMULATE THE SITUATION EXACTLY AS BEFORE! In other words I was supposed to miss the first shot, but then I had the second shot to attempt it again! Because I hit the target the first time on the re-do I lost the bird. A lesson I won't forget!

Hey I finally made it out to LA Clays today. I hadn't been there in 18 months since it was Triple B Clays.

They've made some nice improvements including new machines, new stations, gun racks, benches, Pro Shop, cafe, and they painted those toxic waste dumps (bathrooms).

The targets on the back half were challenging, but fair. Unfortunately it's a little out of my price range, due to Covid I lost my minimum wage ($7.50 an hour) job.

If you go, you'll enjoy it.

Same price as Raahauge's without the membership. LA Clays membership is $205 per year. So that means your first 1000 is $320 + $205 = $525.

Your second 1000 is $320+320+$205=$845, or $0.42 a bird.

I guess it depends on how much you shoot..
