    Shotgun Conversion.

I have a Stoeger M3K that I bought in 2019. I thought then that I would try the 3-gun sport with this shotgun. I installed an extended MOA Precision magazine, magazine spring, and follower.

However, health issues got in the way, so 3-gun is out, I would like to convert it to home defense use, " tactical " setup specifically speaking.

Barrel would have to be shortened to 18.5 and re-choked, stock would have to be shortened or replaced with an adjustable telescoping kind.

MOA Precision used to sell an " adapter " so that a Magpul SGA stock for the Mossberg 500/590/590A1 can be used on the Stoeger. But they seem to be out of stock and seems to me that MOA is not making them anymore.

Need your advise whether this project is viable, worth it to spend on, or just keep it for back up and buy a tactical shotgun. I'd like to be able to keep the shotgun as much as possible.

    Thank you.

You cannot put an adjustable/telescoping stock on a semi auto shotgun in CA

Be fine without a telescoping stock.

I was able to locate an adapter from MOA Precision, ordered it and ordered also the Magpul SGA stock in FDE from Amazon.

This will be an entertaining project for me. Thank you both.

Check the shotgun flowchart so you don’t make it into an AW

To me, I’d buy a Benelli with a factory 18” barrel.

I would absolutely not spend the money to
              1- chop a barrel
              2- thread for chokes

I’d buy a short barrel instead and sell the current barrel.

I want to say your shotgun has the same shoulder busting inertia system as the benellis.

So I’ll ask about the health issue. Does the health issue prevent you from running full power OO loads and or full power slugs?

My experience with 18” benellis is that they like full power Ammo.

If the health issue conflicts with that…. Then find something that works with your situation.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Definitely not true as you pointed out in your next post.

OP while in california do not put an adjustable stock AND pistol grip on your semi auto shotgun. Either is fine, but not both. That would be an assault weapon and a felony for mear possesion.

I used the MOA adapter on mine, but installed the Hogue stock with a 12” LOP. Fits perfect if you want the shortest LOP possible

                    (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.

Would technically make it a “assault weapon” but ya know, America and all…

                    What pythonfan said.

                    To reiterate...
CA assault weapons laws for shotguns are similar to, but different that those for rifles and pistols.
What may be CA legal for rifles may not be CA legal for shotguns.

If the semi-auto shotgun has a pistol grip or any type of vertical grip and a folding/telescoping stock, then it is an assault weapon, regardless if the shotgun has a fixed magazine or not. [PC 30515(a)(6)]

Okay gang, this is the latest:

Bought the adapter from MOA Precision, waiting for its delivery next week.
Bought the SGA Magpul stock for the Mossberg 500/590/590A1, waiting for its delivery next week.

So, no pistol grip nor telescoping aftermarket stock. I took all your advises into consideration. A great thanks to those who saw to it to give an old dog some legal advise.

Left the barrel to my gunsmith to have it shortened to 20 inches. Will have the gunsmith install a Hi-Viz green front sight. Will be able to pick it up in two weeks.

I am no longer interested in any type of game or hunting, just purely home defense. My deteriorated eyesight and bad gout pushed me to this limitation.

It is true the Stoeger is inertia drive and will have a stronger recoil impulse than a gas gun. But then, so does a pump shotgun.

I don't want to sell off the Stoeger but to modify it for my use. I like its simplicity. The ease of taking things apart for cleaning and upkeep. Both the bolt and trigger assembly are easy to totally take apart and reassemble.

                      Thank you all.
