Instinct shooting- Red Rider BB gun

I came across this while surfing the internet:

Remove the sights and instinctively point the gun. Apparently the Army used it to teach soldiers how to shoot. Have any of you done this? There is even a company that makes adult sized stocks.

I took the sights off my Red Rider and have been playing with it for a few days. I am surprising myself at how accurate I can be without sights.

    More:
The James River Ruffed Grouse Society visited the Little George Rod and Gun shooting preserve to learn the instinct-shooting method from James Rutland.

    ><

    Very old news

Its what we call pointing a shotgun rather then aiming a shotgun.

Edit---Same technique can be used for rifle and pistol.

I don't see how shooting a (anything) using the point method at a stationary target can help hitting a flying target. Hitting a flying target that going away from you in a straight line being the one exception.

Is this what you are asking?

Moving targets both eyes open just ignore the sights.

              From the 2nd link:

              Has anyone here tried this?

Where this comes into play in my opinion is in self-defense shootings that happen quickly.
I suggest everyone try to watch many many self defense shooting videos that happen in real life and you'll see using sights just doesn't happen much in the real world, when things are going down so quickly.

If you can use your sights you should but this old training tip could be tried for low money and might even be fun.

Of course covering up the sights of your handgun or rifle might not be a good idea at an indoor range or some other places but if you get the opportunity to try it, you should.

Both eyes open. No looking at the sights or barrel. See here.

I find a pistol/rifle with a laser is an effective way of gaining feedback of instinctive shooting. I don't actually have a rifle with a laser, but do have a micro pistol with one. A bit difficult to "aim"instinctively, but the laser helps. My Sig 220 on the other hand could easily not have sights at "HD" range and I wouldn't miss them.

When you handle a shotgun in the store, you throw it up to your shoulder with some point in the store as your subject, then see if the "sights" align with the chosen object.
