    Browning A5 with Poly choke

    Hello,

I recently purchased a 1959 browning A5 is great condition with a poly choke installed on the barrel. I wanted to see is anyone knows exactly how to use the settings. I believe you zero it out by going to the bottom of the threads then twist in the directions of the different chokes feeling for the click. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Are there no markings on the choke?

My Poly choke has 6 positions.

All the way in is position 6 - FULL

Then you start backing it out (unscrewing it) for the next positions.

Position 5 is between FULL and MODIFIED
    Position 4 is MODIFIED
Position 3 is between MODIFIED and IMPROVED CYLINDER
    Position 2 is IMPROVED CYLINDER
Position 1 is likely CYLINDER BORE

All of my positions are marked, however only positions 2, 4, and 6 have names. The selected position should be aligned with the front bead sight. There should be a click for each position.

There should only be one rotation to go from Position 6 to Position 1. Mine is marked "Single Turn". Perhaps there were others that used multiple rotations, but I have no idea.

    Mine is on a 1930s A5 clone (Savage 720)

Yes it has them all the different chokes labeled on it.

Starting with Xtra Full, Full, IMP MOD, MOD, IMP CYL, SLUG.

It is a hartford Conn Poly Choke.

question was how to use it and how many turns

            Hello,

Basically I wanted to confirm how many turns it takes. And to confirm that it should not go all the way around at all. Just once.

You can watch the fingers close as you tighten the choke. If it won't go the xtra full, gotta clean it good.

Been like 35 years since I had one. IIRC it had stops vs. continually loosening/unscrewing.
