    870 forearm wrench?

I'm trying to swap out the forearm on my 870 and am wondering what kinda of tool you guys use to loosen and tighten the "nut" that holds the grip to the tube. I managed to get it loose and removed without anything special, but I can't seem to get it started on the threads without some kinda of a tool.

    Thanks!

The correct way is to use the proper tool.

But I was able to just use a screwdriver and eventually get it to thread properly.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

        Cool, ordered the tool, thanks!
Hopefully I can get it threaded back into the original forearm now as it's clearly not going into the new one tonight

I used a long pointy pair of needle nose plyers. that worked just fine for me!

oh, if you are gonna try to do it without the proper tool, it makes it a lot easier if you remove the pump assy from the shotgun so you don't have to work around the magazine tube.

I definitely had it off the gun. I did manage to get it screwed back onto the original forearm, so I'm gtg until the tool arrives.

              Thanks for the help!!

If it's anything like the Mossberg 500, you can use the cartridge stop as a makeshift wrench. This advice comes from the AGI Mossberg 500 armorer's course.

If all else fails, buy one from Brownell's.

I use the needle nose on my Leatherman. Works fine.

                    Needle Nose for me.

Just need to remove the forend from the mag tube before you try it.

Threading it back on the gun should not have anything to do with the forearm or wrench. Those are very fine threads, be carefull you don't cross thread it. The special wrench will help you tighten it down. I use a drop of locktite or two to prevent the nut from backing off from repeated pumping on my Trap Gun.
