Mossberg 500A need slimmer forend grip

I find the plastic forend on my older 500A to be too slippery and would prefer something slimmer too. Any ideas for something aftermarket? I'm considering these two:

    Magpul MAG494

    ATI

That magpul one wont be slimmer.

The 2nd one is preferably better in my opinion in looks and what you may want in slimness/grip.

Or look into tacstar tactical forend grip for pistol grip forend.

OP, if you are not dead set on a synthetic forend, I believe an OEM wood forend is thicker than your current synthetic. You could call Mossberg and ask them directly if you want: (800) 363-3555

I'm looking for something thinner not thicker. It sounds like I should not consider the Magpul which is a shame because I like the looks of it.

The Magpul is the best one out there. It has hand stops on both ends and works great. The overall shape of it is nearly perfect as far a functionality goes.

I have two shotguns with them installed along with the Buttstocks as well.

They work and your perceived idea of the size will go away quickly as soon as you start using one.

The Magpul forend isn't slimmer. I personally didn't care for it and went back to the origina forend on my 590A1. Not sure what's out there that's slimmer than than the OEM ribbed grip. With that said, Randy does make valid points about the hand stops on the Magpul forend, just wasn't my cup of tea.

If you're interested I think I have a new Mossberg Tri-Rail forend that I've never used buried somewhere in my parts box. PM me if you're interested.

Here's mine with the original forend:

^^^^The ribbed forend above is what you want op.

I found the Magpul to be too slippery so I ditched it.

Yup magpul stuff is anything but minimalistic, light and slim.
that ribbed oem one is about as slim as you can get.
I have a hogue on my 870 i really like. Its a little wider but gives it a great grip not slippery even in the rain

You can always add texture to the OEM forgrip

                    Skateboard tape

                    Stipple
                    Sand paper

Lots of way to scuff plastic

The Pachmayr Vindicator rubber coated forend is very slim.
It is smaller in diameter than the original and what I use.
Plenty of traction and the size allows a firm grip.
The forend is usually sold with a rear pistol grip as a set but I got my forend separately many years ago.

OK you Bozo's dissing the Magpul Fore End are saying things that make no sense to someone who has actually used two of them extensively and understands exactly what the benefits are and how to use them.

First: The hand stops on both ends facilitate both opening the action and closing the action and provide multiple options for hand placement that don't work with the Stock Fore End or others I have seen.

One such example is closing the action during Port Loading the gun, which is one of the most necessary functions for effectively running a Pump Gun.

                        Holding Shell: Most important part!

                        Staging shell for loading:

                        Shell in Port:

                        Closing Action ready to fire:

This is all done with the gun mounted and without the hand stops it is almost impossible to do quickly and certainly not as quick as I can do it with the Magpul Fore End. This is because you can't effectively run the pump from the back edge of a stock fore end or one that doesn't have the hand stop.

                        Simple as that.

Has nothing to do with MY way,,, it is the way virtually all trainers teach the technique. I was just showing how to do it, and why the Magpul Fore end is superior.

If you don't want to do it that way, then don't do it that way. I suppose you were born knowing how to drive a car too?

But if you are ever up against someone who does do it the "Right" way,,, then you WILL probably lose.

Also those that make decisions on what they "THINK" is right, but don't really know how to do it using any method,,, are destined to become worm food. I pity the worms!

The comment is not about technique, it's about the hardware and your insistence that there's only one answer.

Believe me, I've known plenty of people who think their choice is the only logical choice.

It would be different if you said "I like this one an this is why I like it".

I don't see VangComp or Wilson declaring the superiority of a Magpul forearm. They both seem to like Surefire.

My shotgun isn't my HD weapon of choice, so you have no idea how well I might fare.

When you insisted wingshooters should focus on the front sight, it was obvious you don't know half of what you think you know. Instead you have one solution (and a poor one for that venue) and try to apply it to all.
