    Weatherby SA-08 semi auto

Anybody have any experience with the Weatherby SA-08 in 12ga synthetic stock? Went to the website and it looks like a nice gun. Very practical and well designed.
    thanks!

Congrats. It is made in Turkey and what little is written about the gun seems to be positive. I get nervous about off brand (not Benelli,Rem,Win,Beretta,Browning) auto loaders but what the hey, all it has to do is kill game or break clays. Good luck and let us know how it shoots.

I'm also interested, I saw it at the gun show and I think it's affordable.. However, I heard that it jams a lot... ?? And it is only good with certain ammos? Which ones?
I have a Benelli nova but it's too big for me so I'm looking for smaller ones

Owning shotguns is, in part, finding out which ammo the individual gun performs best with.

Haven't heard any jam stories about this gun in particular. Some semi-autos are set up for heavier loads and don't function well with lighter ones. The SA-08 being a sporting gun intended for a variety of hunting applications, I'd expect it would function across a pretty wide range of loadings. Bear in mind that the SA-08 uses two different pistons, one for light loads and one for heavy. If you shooting powder puff trap loads with the heavy piston installed I doubt the gun would cycle.

Quite often semi-autos failing to perform has to do with the gas system being really filthy dirty, or just not liking the particular ammo, at least in my experience.

I personally shoot a lot of Remington shells. Various types have given me good service over the years. If you need a bargain priced option for clays or light game loads the Estate brand shells have run well for me. Winchester AA and Remington STS are, in many ways, the gold standard of clay loads.

I had one gun, a Remington 1100, that would eat the Winchester Universal bulk ammo from Wal-Mart all day long without a hitch and those are widely regarded as some of the worst shotgun shells you can buy. I've had other guns that hagged on the same shells.

It's really about finding the combination of components that work best for your gun. It means a bunch of shooting (always fun), trial and error, and patterning your gun(s) with the different loads you try until you find the optimum.
